Hi I'm Carol

I'm a great-grandmother. I'm a retired teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a son, four adult granddaughters, and three cats. After retiring from teaching, I became interested in family history/genealogy and love going to family reunions! I have served in various capacities as a church musician for the past 30 years.

Why I am a Mormon

My senior year in high school, I read the Book of Mormon and was impressed by how similar it was to the King James version of the Bible, which we used in the church I had attended all my life. Attracted by the beautiful liturgies, I eventually joined the Catholic church and became active in the music program, Bible study, and prayer groups. Also, I began listening to Glenn Beck in 2007. As Glenn began sharing his faith with his listeners, I was touched by the depth of his love for God, the same God I so passionately loved. When people made fun of him and Mitt Romney for being Mormons, I found myself in the unusual position of defending a religion I knew very little about. So, I did what any good Catholic would do: I bought my own copy of the Book of Mormon, as well as Mormonism for Dummies! The first time I attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 15, 2012, I felt so welcome that I knew I would be back some day. Five months later, I went back. On November 7, the missionaries came to my house to teach me for the very first time. We talked for hours, and they set a time to come back the next day, at which time I told them I wanted to be baptized before Christmas. The following Sunday, I asked the Bishop if I could be baptized on November 25. He gave permission but mentioned that he would be out of town that weekend and suggested that I be baptized a week sooner. I eagerly agreed until I realized that November 18 was just one week away, and I had a lot more to learn before then. I asked the missionaries if I could finish the rest of my lessons in one week, shamelessly bribing them with cookies, and they said they could make it happen! The week passed quickly, and the missionaries were there almost every day. I baked more cookies that week than I had baked in the previous twenty years! The missionaries kept coming, and I kept baking! Eleven days after my first lesson, I was baptized!

How I live my faith

As Family History consultant, I help others work on their family trees and to search out ancestors. It is such a joy to help them learn to fill out Family Ordinance Requests to take to the Temple! I am also a Ward Missionary. What a blessing it is to go out teaching with the missionaries! The missionaries in the Great Kentucky Louisville Mission all call me "Grandma." It is truly an honor to serve Heavenly Father.
