Hi I'm Jack

I grew up in Montana. I have enjoyed teaching physics in college my entire career. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a Ph.D in physics from Brigham Young University. I taught college physics, first at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and then at Ricks College, which is now called BYU-Idaho. I am now retired. I also have an interest in writing fiction, and have written several novels for young single adults. I like to do family history. My wife and I have served two missions for the Church, where we taught young single adults lessons from the scriptures.

Why I am a Mormon

I was once talking to a person who was not a Mormon but loved Jesus Christ. I asked him which of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) were his favorites. After some thought, he said he particularly liked Matthew and John. I commended him on his choice and told him that I loved those two books of the New Testament as well. I asked him "What if one of the other apostles had written a book about his experiences with Jesus Christ, but that book had just been discovered--would he read that also? He said, "Of course I would." I then said to him, "Well, there is another gospel that testifies of Jesus Christ. Shortly after the Savior's crucifixion and resurrection, He appeared to a group of people in South or Central America. He descended down from Heaven. He said, "Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father by taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning." I then told this good man about how, later, the Savior asked, "Have ye any sick among you?" And how he healed them, one at a time, of all manner of sicknesses and infirmities. I told him he needed to get a copy of the Book of Mormon and read it from page 427 to 464 to learn more about this remarkable visitation from Jesus Christ. That is why I'm a Mormon. Because it gives me more insight about Jesus Christ

How I live my faith

I have often been asked to teach about the atonement and how it reaches or will reach every individual who has ever lived upon this Earth. I have also served as a leader of a congregation (which we call a ward). From this I have learned that God answers prayers and will help us as we seek to help others.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

All scripture testifies of Jesus Christ. Old Testament prophets looked forward to the time when Jesus would be on the earth. They talked about his birth, his life, his ministry, and his atonement which made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins. I love the unity in the scriptures. Show more Show less
