Hi I'm Paul Howarth

I grew up in California. I served a mission in Ecuador. I owned a municipal bond advisory business. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In High School I played a lot of tennis and volleyball. I enjoy playing the piano and organ and have even played the Tabernacle organ! I started a municipal bond financial advisory business in 1986 that I sold to Zion's Bank in 1997. Most people think I know a lot about personal finance. But my career was spent mainly helping governments borrow money. I am detail oriented and a "numbers guy". I enjoy reading, water sports, snow skiing, spending time with my wife, 5 children, and grandchildren,

Why I am a Mormon

The Mormon Church is a great church. I am a Mormon because within the Church, I find the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ which answer the big questions about life: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where do we go after this life? God's Plan of Happiness answers all of these questions and is taught in the church. Jesus Christ and His Atonement are central to God's Plan of Happiness. His life and ministry and Atonement are taught in the church too. My baptism by immersion was performed by someone who had the authority of the priesthood - just like the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. I am eternally grateful for my baptism which gave me the opportunity to promise God I would keep His commandments and follow the example of Jesus Christ. Thank goodness for repentance because I frequently fall short. And thank goodness for the Gift of the Holy Ghost which I received after baptism. It can show me all things that I should do and steer me away from things that I should not do. The Holy Ghost has revealed to me the truth that God is our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. The Holy Ghost has also revealed to me that priesthood authority to perform baptisms has been restored to the earth. It has also revealed to me that the Book of Mormon is a true book which will bring any sincere reader to their own witness that Jesus is the Christ. The Holy Ghost will reveal these things to you too!

How I live my faith

Daily prayer and scripture study are important habits to me. I feels like something is missing when these things are skipped. As a long-time youth-sports coach, I interact with the players with kindness and a soft voice. I am frequently asked to play the organ for Sunday services. Many dozens of people have asked me for organ-playing training so they can serve as church organists too. Right now, I am a Sunday School teacher for the Gospel Essentials course. This is a class that teaches and discusses the basic principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have been called to serve as a Bishop of a Ward a couple times. A Ward is the geographic area that encompasses 300 or more members of the church. A Bishop is like the pastor of a congregation. Bishops are not paid and volunteer their time to their service just like all of the other members of the Ward. I try to live my faith by trying to become a good husband and father and a good member of the community. I think frequently about the importance of being caring, kind, loving, and forgiving. And I desire to bring my actions in line with these thoughts!
