Hi I'm Katie

I'm a New Yorker, a student, an adventurous spirit, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and then moved to Utah for school when I was 18. I graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, with a degree in exercise science about a year ago, and I'm headed back to the east coast for PA school pretty soon - the next adventure! I've always known I want to pursue medicine as a career. When it came time to choose what to do for grad school, I looked around for something that would allow me the flexibility to focus on raising a family when the time comes, but still allow me to serve God's children through medicine. I'm excited to see how things turn out! One step at a time :) While living in Utah, I've really come to appreciate the outdoors. I love swimming, hiking, running, wakeboarding, and camping. I also love food! I'm always looking for a new recipe - especially if it's a dessert. I've found food brings people together, so what better way to spend my time than making people happy with food, right? I love music, too. I played the flute in school for 9 years and taught myself to play the ukulele in 2013. It's a fun way to relax.

Why I am a Mormon

My grandma was the first convert in our family when my mom was a little girl. My dad and his side of the family are all Catholic, but my brothers and I grew up going to church with my mom and chose to be baptized when we were eight years old into the LDS church. I think as an 8-year-old I didn't really know what else to choose, so my testimony came from the adults around me that I looked up to. I remember really developing my testimony when I was 14. That was when I started intently looking for answers and seeking God's guidance in my life. There isn't really a moment that I can point to when I received an answer to whether or not this gospel is true, but as I lived the different aspects of the gospel, I gained a testimony that the commandments we were asked to follow were given to us from God through His prophets. The standards and values that were taught to me as a teenager have become my own standards and I have found so much happiness and peace in living God's commandments. That's how I know that this is Christ's church. Something that makes me this happy and brings about so much good in my life and others must be from God, because He is the source of all that is good.

How I live my faith

I love service - helping people and making a difference in their day. Nothing can compare to the feeling when you know you've helped someone be happier or live a little bit easier that day. And there are opportunities to help people all the time! I also love going to the temple. Life gets so busy and I am so glad that I live close to a temple. The opportunity to be in the house of the Lord and feel close to Him gives me clarity and a renewed perspective on anything that I am dealing with. As I draw closer to God, I feel Him drawing closer to me. But what makes the biggest difference in my life each day is prayer and scripture study. God still speaks to His children on Earth, and so many answers to life's questions can be found in the scriptures - The Holy Bible and The Book of Mormon.
