Hi I'm Linda Mercer

I am a mother, grandmother, full time worker, Trade Union Rep, Trustee of a Theater, Fundraiser and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to John and we have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. I work full-time as a Disability Housing Support Officer and I am very involved in GMB Trade Union where I have done a lot of work supporting staff to gain better skills through education and training. I am in the process of gaining a qualification in Employment Law through Union Learn. I am a Trustee of the Theater Royal, Hyde . I have been involved in fundraising for various charities through singing, at the moment I am working with SSAFA to raise money for homeless veterans. I also enjoy knitting and crochet.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 14 I was studying Religion at school and was looking at various other religions and hoped one day to be a Methodist minister. A new church was being built across the road from where I lived and once it was complete I decided to go along and visit. I was given a Book of Mormon by a member that knew my mum. When I read about Joseph Smith and his experience something really touched me. I had always known that God and Jesus where two separate people and that the Holy Ghost was something else. This confirmed it to me and as I read the Book of Mormon I knew for certain that this was the truth. I had to wait another 4 years before I could be baptized as my parents were against this, but the more I learned the more I knew that this was the truth. I would not be the person I am today without the Church I have been truly blessed through living its principles. I know that there is a God in Heaven and that Jesus is the Christ and I believe with all my heart that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

How I live my faith

I tell everyone I meet that 'I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' and how it is such an important part of my families lives. I have had many callings in church at the moment I have 3 callings, I am Ward Chorister, Ensign rep and Helping Hands Co-oridinator. I am so grateful that both my sons have served missions and are very much involved in the church. I love doing Family History and involve all my family in learning about our past. I have been a member of the local church choir for many years but my proudest moment was singing at the Dedication of the Preston Temple and meeting President Hinkley and his lovely wife. My husband and I are sealed together for time and all eternity which is a wonderful blessing.
