Hi I'm Jace Briand

I was born and raised in northern British Columbia, Canada. I LOVE to travel and teach! I am a Mormon! :D

About Me

I joined the church in June of 2012 and am currently serving a mission in Italy! My family moved around northern BC a bit while I was growing up and I was also a Rotary exchange student in Belgium. I have thus traveled all over Europe and fallen in love with traveling. I speak French and Italian thanks to my travels. After graduating high school I volunteered as an English teacher in southern China. My dream is to become a history/language/religion (can't decide! :S) teacher and raise a beautiful family, rooted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Growing up in Canada, naturally I grew to love the outdoors. My absolute favourite sports are mountain biking and snowboarding. I live in the "Lakes District" and try to make the most of the many lakes and rivers around by fishing, swimming, and kayaking. I love the water and doing anything outside! My parents passed their love of reading on to me and fantasy/sci-fi are my preferred reads. I enjoy most all other forms of literature including horror, romance, historical and frequently write for myself. I primarily write poetry and short stories but am in the process of writing my own fantasy novel. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has eternally multiplied my pre-existing joys in life by sharing with me the true Gospel of Christ. The Church is here on the Earth for everybody; it's primary purpose is to serve others with the love that Christ has for all of us. Make the most of it! :)

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church when I was 18 years old, literally a couple weeks after graduation. My story is sort of a flirt to convert story, except the girl I fell for didn't really flirt with me lol. I love a challenge and the hurdle of getting her to fall in love with me as I had with her included first, joining the church. However I was not about to go and join a religion I knew nothing about and make one of the biggest decisions of my life, at the age of 16 without even learning about it. So I investigated. For the first few months I researched on my own and discovered mountains of information and stories, many of which contradicted each other. I soon realized them to be anti-Mormon sources and had to wonder how my best friend could follow and believe such bizarre practices. When I asked her I discovered that she did not believe or follow many of the things I had learned about. I decided then and there that if I was going to learn about Mormons I would go to Mormons first. I met with the missionaries and went to church. What I learned there answered many questions I had in my own personal Christian faith and solidified my personal, secret beliefs. The truths I learned though, were not important. I could always doubt the faith of other people, I could always wonder if they were lying to me or not. However, when the Spirit of God would teach me, would tell me that what I was learning from these men and women was true then I could no longer doubt. This Spirit touched my heart one night after having read the Book of Mormon. At the end of the book, in Moroni chapter 10, verses 4-5, I found a promise that if I would ask God in the name of Christ, with a sincere heart, real intent, and faith in Christ, that He would answer my prayer. I share with everyone the fact that God answered my prayer. Yes it was a miracle. After answering my prayer I knew that God had spoken to me, and I knew that He knew, and I could not deny it. Baptism in Christ's Church was worth every sacrifice.

How I live my faith

I strive to live my faith wherever I am and earnestly look for opportunities to share it with others. I volunteer as much as possible throughout my community with different groups or organizations. Before being called to serve as a representative of the Lord in Italy I held a calling in church as a primary teacher. I taught 4 to 7 year old children about Gospel principles such as faith, prayer, choosing the right, charitable love, and other general principles like sharing, friendship, and helping others. I love teaching children so much. :D I also visited, taught and served 4 families at least once a month, sharing a special, sacred message from Jesus Christ through the world's prophet. During my spare time I strove to study my scriptures and other books to help me prepare to serve my mission. These books include Gospel Principles, Preach My Gospel, and Jesus the Christ. Other resources I have come to love are films and video presentations of Church history. Growing up mostly in the 21st century, I have a special affinity to films despite my adoration of literature and these representations are wonderfully created and bring the Spirit into my life more. As of now I am living near Milan and will probably be here till the end of my mission. As a missionary I obey a sacred responsibility to live my faith in all aspects of my daily life. In my call letter the Prophet states, “You have been recommended as one worthy to represent the Lord as a minister of the restored gospel. You will be an official representative of the Church. As such, you will be expected to maintain the highest standards of conduct and appearance by keeping the commandments, living mission rules, and following the counsel of your mission president. You will also be expected to devote all your time and attention to serving the Lord, leaving behind all other personal affairs. As you do these things, the Lord will bless you and you will become an effective advocate and messenger of the truth.”
