Hi I'm MacKenzie

I am a college student from Albuquerque going to the West Indies on my mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student attending Brigham Young University. I am majoring in Neuroscience and hope to go on to Medical School. I chose neuroscience as a major because I love science, and because I wanted to study the most complex and interesting thing I could think of. Although I enjoy science and learning, I also love sports, music, and the outdoors. My favorite sports are baseball and soccer and I have been playing both all my life. I enjoy playing, singing, and listening to music. My favorite band is Coldplay and my favorite instrument is the saxophone. I have also been called on a mission to the West Indies and am excited to serve.

Why I am a Mormon

The simple reason I am a Mormon is because the Holy Ghost confirmed my belief that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church on the earth when I asked my Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. And the reason I have continued in the Church is because this truth has been continually reaffirmed through the gift of the Holy Ghost I was given after I was baptized and confirmed a member. I grew up a Mormon with wonderful parents. When I was eight years old the decision of whether to get baptized had come, and I am very grateful that my parents left the decision to me. They told me to think about it and then pray to see whether what I had decided was right. I decided I wanted to be baptized and remember a warm, happy and relieved feeling come over me. From then on I have had the Spirit confirm the Book of Mormon to be true, Joseph Smith to be a Prophet, and countless other facets of the gospel to be true. And I have also learned that it is through the gospel that we can all return to live with our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ while gaining knowledge and joy here on earth. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is indeed the true church with the proper authority and that Jesus Christ is its head. I know that we are all sons and daughters of one loving Heavenly Father. And that we can return with our families to live with Him and Jesus Christ for eternity.

How I live my faith

In living my faith in everyday life as a youth, I was active in my ward and held various leadership positions in the young mens organization. I was also active in Boy Scouts of America and earned my Eagle Scout award. Along with a strong family those things kept on the right path. As an adult I attended BYU for two semesters and was active in my ward in Provo (Utah) as a ward missionary. During this time what really built my faith was preparing to go on a full time mission. Originally I thought all I needed to read as much literature as possible and become an expert on it. However, I soon realized, through the Holy Ghost, that I needed to strengthen my testimony (or belief, faith, and knowledge gained in the gospel) by revisiting the basics I would be teaching. So, mostly through the scriptures, I was able to fortify and reaffirm what I already knew and by doing so learn more than I could have imagined.
