Hi I'm Garrett Horton

I've lived in Georgia and South Carolina most my life. I'm 6'8". I do Not play basketball (I row). And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've lived in the southeastern, US as long as I remember (since I was 3). When I lived in Augusta, Georgia, I rowed for 2 years with the Augusta Junior Rowing Team and I really loved the experience because it pushed me like I'd never been pushed before. When my family moved to Greenville, South Carolina because of my dad's job I did lacrosse for a year before getting a job in the fast food industry where I worked for 18 months. I enjoyed my lacrosse experience especially as it was my first contact sport. The summer before I left for college I sold Cutco knives (crazy I know but I enjoyed it and made money doing it). I attended college at BYU in Provo majoring in chemical engineering. I've always had a passion for science and I took honors and then AP Chem in high school and loved it and did pretty good so I figured Chem E would be a good way for me to go. I've loved the courses I've had so far for Chem E and the other courses at BYU that I took. After 2 semesters at BYU, I worked as a chemical engineering intern for half the summer for a company called SES which is a brand new company that's working with a highly innovative process of carbon capture called Cryogenic Carbon Capture. I love my family. I love my church. I love my friends. I'm serving a mission for 2 years and I'll be excited to see my friends and family again at that point but until then I'm fully dedicated to the service of God to bring to pass His will and His commandments.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I Know that this church is true. I was born into this church and growing up I lived off of my parent's testimonies but as I grew up my faith was tested at different times and I've gained my own testimony of this church. I know that through this church all men can be with their families in heaven and we can all be with God and Jesus Christ again.

How I live my faith

I currently am serving a two-year mission for the church. I'm not quite in my mission field yet because I'm in the Missionary Training Center. Around September 16, 2013, I'll enter the field serving in the Brazil Sao Paulo East mission where I'll be speaking the Portuguese language. I live my faith also by reading the word of God through the Book of Mormon and Bible. I also pray often to God to have questions answered or to ask for help which I often need while I'm here on my mission. Without God I can do nothing but with God, all things are possible. En nome de Jesus Cristo amem (In the name of Jesus Christ amen).
