Hi I'm Elder John Dennison McIlmoil

I am a high school graduate. I am an 18 year old about to embark on the best 2 years of my life and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an 18 year old who has been called to serve in the Guatemala Quetzaltenago Mission. I just graduated high school and now am about take on the best 2 years of my life. I love to play sports. I love soccer and American Football. I love to hang out with friends and my family. I love to read the Book of Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

There came a point in my life where I made a few decisions that put me in a place where I was sad, depressed and it was a very dark and hard time in my life. One day in seminary during my sophomore year we read D&C 135:3. I have had no other scripture hit me as hard as that one has. It reads, “Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. In the short space of twenty years, he has brought forth the Book of Mormon, which he translated by the gift and power of God, and has been the means of publishing it on two continents; has sent the fulness of the everlasting gospel, which it contained, to the four quarters of the earth; has brought forth the revelations and commandments which compose this book of Doctrine and Covenants, and many other wise documents and instructions for the benefit of the children of men; gathered many thousands of the Latter-day Saints, founded a great city, and left a fame and name that cannot be slain. He lived great, and he died great in the eyes of God and his people; and like most of the Lord’s anointed in ancient times, has sealed his mission and his works with his own blood; and so has his brother Hyrum. In life they were not divided, and in death they were not separated!” As I read those words I realized I really didn’t know if the Book of Mormon was true and if Joseph Smith even translated it and if he was called of God. I did everything I was asked, fulfilled my callings but why was I doing this? I thought I had a testimony but I really didn’t. So I made some changes in my life read the Book of Mormon and took on Moroni’s Promise, Gaining that testimony came with a price but words can’t describe how much it changed my life. I’m so grateful that my simple, faithful prayer was answered and to strengthen my testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to know the Book of Mormon is true.
