Hi I'm Calvin

I was baptized over 36 years ago at the age of 29 in Oregon. Blessed to be a Mormon.

About Me

Recently retired - had careers in the food, hospitality, and healthcare industries specializing in management and customer service. Three super children and nine very active grandchildren. Grew up on rock & roll playing in bands through college. Now play a little guitar - folk/church music mostly. Other interest - cycling, genealogy, videography.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Presbyterian until I was 11. Our family then moved from the east coast to the west. We went to church Christmas and Easter. Due to personal experiences in my late teens and twenties I doubted the existence of God leaning heavily on evolutionary theory. In the early years of our marriage my wife suffered several miscarriages. I came to understand how precious a life was. After three years of marriage my wife became active in the LDS Church which I had no interest in. Two years later my wife gave birth to our first sweet baby - a girl. One day when my wife was out running errands I was standing, cradling my infant daughter in my arms. I looked into her eyes and with a feeling of emotion knew instantly she nor any other human being evolved from the "amoebic soup" - that there had to be a God. I began my search. I read the Old and New Testament for the first time to get an understanding of what God and Jesus Christ were about. At the same time I was reviewing in my mind previous exposure I had to other faiths. For me there was not a match. Based on my wife's example I decided to read the Book of Mormon taking Moroni's challenge. I went on to read Doctrine & Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. I also read a couple of anti-Mormon books for "balance". By the time I was done I knew without a doubt the Book of Mormon was another testament of Jesus Christ as is the Holy Bible. I was baptized at the age of 29 and my testimony continues to grow. I know based on almost 37 years of "hands on" experience that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's church here upon the earth. How do I know this? Because of prayer, the scriptures, the church organization, the latter-day saints example and at times the lack thereof, repentance, service, the guidance of our prophet, apostles, and local church leaders, the restored priesthood, the gift of the Holy Ghost, the infinite love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to live Heavenly Father's commandments by personal and family prayer; studying the scriptures and conference talks; attending church and partaking of the sacrament; accepting and fulfilling church callings. I am striving to be a good example; repenting; helping others; going to the Temple regularly. I am currently in the Oregon Salem Mission serving with my wife.
