Hi I'm Sam Askerlund

Just a girl hoping to make a difference in the world someday. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary, I am a daughter, I am a sister, I am an Utah State Aggie, I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I love this gospel, simple as that. This gospel brings eternal happiness. Happiness that cannot be found anywhere else. Having lived majority of my life in an inactive home, I know the difference between a life without the gospel in it and a life knowing the truth. I feel so blessed to have the knowledge of the restored gospel, nothing else compares. I know the Book of Mormon to be true and the word of God. I know Joesph Smith translated and restored the Lord's true gospel. I know Thomas S. Monson is the only true prophet on Earth and is a lifeline between our Earth and Heavenly Father. I know Heavenly Father knows me personally and is aware of everything I am going through here on Earth, he is my truest friend and my greatest comforter.

How I live my faith

I was baptized at age 8 but my family became inactive. I grew up in a loving home, but an inactive home. Through the examples of family and friends close to me, I started going back to church when I moved out on my own at age 18 during my Freshmen year at college. I am currently preparing to serve my mission in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! I report to the MTC February 26th! I cannot wait to share this gospel with the people of Milwaukee! Even though I am the only active member in my family, they offer support and love in my decision to serve. I am beyond blessed.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Sam Askerlund
What an amazing blessing it is to know that we get to see our loved ones again after this life! I am so blessed to have the knowledge that because of the gospel, families can be sealed in the temple for all time and eternity. I get to see my grandparents again someday and they will be in their perfect condition. What a wonderful thought. Family relationships can last forever—not just for this life. Just as some of life’s sweetest joys can come through family associations, the loss of a beloved family member can be a source of our deepest sorrows. Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to seal families together forever when He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). Death does not need to be the end of our relationships with cherished loved ones. The Lord revealed to Joseph Smith that the “same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there [in eternity], only it will be coupled with eternal glory” (Doctrine and Covenants 130:2). Family members who accept the Atonement of Jesus Christ and follow His example can be together forever through sacred ordinances performed in God’s holy temples. These ordinances seal a husband and wife together for all eternity and children to their parents as an eternal family. (See: “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”) Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Sam Askerlund
Gordon B. Hinckley, prior President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said: “[People] see in this Church an anchor in a world of shifting values. The family is falling apart in America and across the world. We are putting strong emphasis on the family. It is appealing to people. They like it. They welcome it. They need help and we offer that help. “Furthermore, it gives purpose to life.... We answer the old questions of Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? These great religious questions have been asked by men throughout the ages. We give them an assurance of who they are, sons and daughters of God. I am a child of God. We have a song that says that. We believe it. It is a fact with us. People find comfort. They find peace. They find strength in that. “And in the organization they find sociability. They find friends. We are a very friendly Church. We are a very happy Church. We are a happy, go ahead people, and others like it.” Show more Show less
