Hi I'm Leslie

I'm a BYU graduate, a world traveler/volunteer, and a loyal friend. I love pizza and bike rides. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a home where I learned that life is meant to be joyful. My wonderful parents taught us how important it is to live in such a way so that one day, we could live our dreams. With their support and guidance, I've been able to set goals and achieve my dreams. My family helped me to discover who I am and what I truly value. Some important values I have include learning, serving, and enjoying life. I recently graduated from college at Brigham Young University with a teaching degree. Gaining an education over the past few years has inspired me to become a lifelong learner and to continue to explore new places and ideas. I've been able to travel a lot; during college I was able to go on a study abroad to Jerusalem, which gave me a love for understanding other cultures. Since then, I've served as a missionary in Ukraine for 18 months and as a volunteer in India for one month. Serving has brought a lot of purpose and satisfaction in my life. Also, I've learned that fulfillment can come from simply enjoying the little things every day, like having a great conversation over pizza, or feeling the sunshine on a bike ride, or being excited to see a new movie in the theater. The positive environment I experienced while growing up is now something I try to share with others by helping them to learn, to serve, and to be truly happy.

Why I am a Mormon

Since I value joy in this life, I have chosen to be a member of this Church because it has helped me to become the happiest version of myself. While I know I could choose to do many things that bring instant gratification, I have learned for myself that the deepest joy comes from living based on true and correct principles. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (ie Mormon) because I know without a doubt that God is our Heavenly Father, who loves us and who has a plan for each one of us. I know that we are here in this life with the purpose of becoming like Him and to learn, grow, and ultimately to have joy. I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior, the Son of God, who was sent to sacrifice for us so that we can repent and one day return to live with God and our families forever. We can receive these blessings by making promises with God in holy temples. While there are many churches that believe in Jesus Christ, I know that God has provided a clear way home to Him by blessing us with living prophets and continued revelation that guide us now. I have read both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and they truly support each other. I feel peace when I read them. I have had some people ask that since I grew up in a family that was already in this faith, how can I really know that this Church is true? Well, when I decided to serve as a missionary in Ukraine and teach the doctrine of our church to others of many different faiths, I learned so much about what others believe and what I know for myself to be true. I was far from my family, eating different food, learning a challenging language, and experiencing very cold weather. Halfway across the world, I came to know with a surety of what I believe and that being in this Church brings indescribable joy. I love Jesus Christ and the gospel He teaches. I know this is His Church restored in our day. I love knowing truth that guides me on a daily basis and that gives me great happiness.

How I live my faith

I feel that if we truly believe something, we need to exemplify it. My faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God gives me purpose and direction in what kind of person I want to become. Every day I pray and read the scriptures to help me learn how to be more Christ-like, and as I strive to apply those principles, I am happier and have greater fulfillment in my life. I love music and I currently lead the music for the congregation when we sing hymns each Sunday. Going to church on a weekly basis is a joy because of the positive feelings I have while I'm there. Being there reminds me that I am a daughter of God with great potential, and that as I become more like the Savior Jesus Christ by following Him and keeping His commandments, I will have peace no matter what stage of life I'm going through at the present time. I also have faith that if we turn to God during hard times instead of turning to unhealthy or damaging things (such as drugs, promiscuity, alcohol, smoking, etc.) , we can have confidence that He will help us through difficulties and ultimately achieve our deepest dreams in His perfect way and time. I strive to show how deeply I believe in these principles by living them with integrity, even during hard times. Because I have chosen to live this way, I have felt so comforted and strengthened by my faith, and being able to experience peace on a daily basis is priceless to me. I also know that God loves all of us and wants us all to be happy, so I invite you to learn more about how this Church can help you find those blessings for yourself.
