Hi I'm Nate

Im a brother, son and future father, I am a Taiwan Taipei Missionary, I am a lover of learning and life in general. I am a Mormon.

About Me

One of the things that I want to do in my life is become the best person I can be. It's a constant commitment to improve, a task that gives me eternal purpose, a direction to go, a goal to meet, an exciting adventure where I am continually questing for personal improvement. Everyday there are new challenges to conquer, skills to acquire and places to progress. It's a life long battle to effectively use time, energy and resources. As a missionary each day is a brilliant opportunity to throw myself into the chaos of Taipei and get to know some more of God's children. To hear about their experiences, trials, passions and in the process help them feel of God's love for them. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done but it is also by far the most worth while. I enjoy acting, drawing, running, swimming, shooting, biking, juggling, skiing, playing basketball, rugby, the piano, the trumpet, ping-pong, pool, soccer, doing debate, ballroom and being a magician. I also really enjoy diving into a good book or spending time with friends. Because of my desire to share my happiness with others I have given it all up. For the next two years I will be serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Taipei, Taiwan. This is the opportunity of a life time and everyday I am immensely grateful for the decision I made to serve. The reason for this is that each day I become better, I learn more and I love more and best of all I help others to do the exact same.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because Jesus is the Christ! He whose love, compassion and mercy defy all description. Our Redeemer, Mediator, Advocate, older brother and friend. The Creator of the world, the Good Shepherd, the Only Begotten son, The Lamb of God, Lord of Hosts, The Light of the World. The most perfect man to ever exist who atoned for the sins of the most vile sinners, sacrificing himself for the salvation of all men; Making it possible for them to sanctify themselves through repentance. His true and everlasting Gospel has been restored in it's fullness by a prophet of God! I have studied the Book of Mormon, pondered on what I have read and prayed to know of its truthfulness. Through this process I have received a witness that it is indeed true and through studying, pondering and praying about it one can come closer to God than ever before. God still cares! He loves us! What more do I need? The Gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me more than anything else in my life. It has given me hope that I can live with my family forever. This has special meaning to me because it means that if I live righteously I have the chance to be with my father who passed away once again. It has given me purpose, an eternal perspective and knowledge of who I am, where I came from, why I am here and where I am going. How cool is that! In addition to forever families we are also promised daily guidance, protection, peace and happiness as we consistently do our best to act on the knowledge we have.

How I live my faith

We mess up, we make mistakes, we're human and because of it we can always get better! The biggest part of my goal to become the best I can be is to try to become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. I am filled with the hope that despite my short comings I can repent and become more like Him if I give it my all. To give your all to something is hard but you don't have to do it alone. That's why we have Jesus Christ, when we give our all to Him, His all becomes our all. He knows what we have gone through, He understands our doubts and our worries and through Him we can overcome our so called human discrepancies, our failings, self centeredness and constant needs to satisfy our own desires. Well, when our desires become His desires they can be satisfied. Through Him I have been able to experience more happiness than ever before. From a young age Mormons are given opportunities to lead and participate with people of their own age. Every Sunday we get to learn doctrine, share experiences and build meaningful relationships. Through weekly activities I have learned how to serve others, be more out-going, friendly, confident and self reliant. Over the years I have lived my faith in a number of ways. I have lived it as a student, as an athlete, musician, debater, actor, dancer, boy scout and artist. Right now, I live it as a missionary on the streets of Taiwan with nothing to my name except my luggage, my companion, my faith and my testimony of a blue book and a boy who saw God.

Who was Joseph Smith?

God is the same today as he was in Biblical times, He loves us and continues to talk to us through prophets. Joseph Smith is one such Prophet. Through him, God restored his Church once again on the earth. It began with a question, that led to careful study and a sincere prayer. When Joseph Smith prayed he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ. His question was "which of all the sects was right" and his answer was that they were all wrong. No one Church had Christ's complete truth. Joseph Smith through God undertook the process of restoring Christ's full truth. He boldly proclaimed that God had spoken to him, never once denying his testimony of Christ or making "weak concessions to public opinion" He proclaimed the word of God as did prophets of old and like them had the courage, faith and determination to endure all persecutions without care for himself. He "denounced wickedness fearlessly"and sealed his testimony in blood. Of the prophet Joseph Smith the following is said: "Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it...He lived great, and he died great" Joseph Smith was the first prophet in the dispensation of the fullness of times. Through God, he "brought forth the Book of Mormon", sent it "to the the four quarters of the earth", "gathered many thousands of the Latter-day Saints" and organized a church that has blessed the lives of millions. What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is: Loving feelings, joyful thoughts, ingenious ideas, peaceful moments, new knowledge, constant hope, persevering patience, consistent faith, gentle meekness, increased desire, brilliant warmth, righteous motivation, divine instruction, a testifier of truth, a shield of protection, the ultimate friend, a guide against deception, sanctification from sin, Godly approval and the master key to power and authority. The real question here is what does the Holy Ghost not do. The answer to that question is nothing. The Holy Ghost a gift of constant comfort, a blanket of protection. All we have to do to have it is live righteously after we receive it. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

As Mormons we are encouraged to be enthusiastic about life! We are inspired by our beliefs to be happy everyday and share that happiness with as many people as possible. We are encouraged to seek enlightened from God and improve our relationship with Him through daily scripture study, prayer and weekly church attendance. Mormons know that through God nothing is impossible, this gives us the will and desire to set goals and push ourselves to reach them. We focus on gratitude and in the process remember what we have. We do our best to forget ourselves, remember others and cast off the natural man in order to become more like Christ. We forget frustrations in the light of eternal hope and remember the sacrifice of Christ with the knowledge that we aren't perfect, but we can improve. We know that everyone is a child of God and has the potential to become like Him. We question but never doubt and diligently search to find the answers to our questions. As Mormons we focus on God and our families. We serve, nurture and care for each other. As Mormons we want to be consistently learning and striving for personal excellence. Our greatest desire is to become more like Christ and in the process become better friends, family and people. As Mormons a lot is asked of us, but instead of discouraging us it gives us encouragement, inspiration and eternal purpose. Show more Show less
