Hi I'm Josie

I'm from Kenai, Alaska. I aspire to become a vocal performer in New York. I'm a Mormon and I love it! :)

About Me

Hello! My name is Josie J. and I was born and raised in Kenai, Alaska. I love video games, peanut butter, exercise, my family and friends, and, of course, Heavenly Father! I am a Honor Student in High School and is a member of National Honor Society. I love hanging out with friends and helping those in need. My ultimate passion is Music. I am a Mezzo-Soprano who plans on going to College for Vocal Performance. My goal in life is to live in New York and become a Vocal Performer (either in Opera or Musical Theater [aka Broadway]). I have been ALL over the Country singing in Honor Choirs, and won Superior ratings in Solo & Ensemble competitions. Some of these accomplishments include: Singing at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. for All-Nationals, Performing in Seattle and Portland for All Northwest, Performing at All-State festivals (and being nominated for first chair!) and becoming a double superior in Opera and Musical Theater at Solo and Ensemble. I hope through my songs people will be able to feel the spirit and have a better day. :)

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout my life I always felt I needed guidance from God. I lost my father to drugs, I was assaulted by my ex-boyfriend, and suffered from an eating disorder. However, throughout these times, God was always there for me and helped me out of these hard times. I became interested in the LDS faith because of a quirky musical called "The Book of Mormon" from the creators of South Park. Though humorous and rude, I felt that the Mormon church really was a happy and kind faith. I asked my friend to meet the missionaries after a concert, and the next day they were at my door: a kind Samoan and a fun singer just like me! They taught me the faith and handed me the Book of Mormon. Two days after that, it was a cold and cloudy day. I knelt to the ground and prayed if the Church and if my new missionary friends teachings were true. Lo and behold, a HUGE ray of sunshine jutted out of the clouds and brightened the entire room! That day I knew that I found the true church of God. One week later I finished the entire Book of Mormon, two days after I finished D & C + The History and Articles of Faith, then three weeks later I was baptized! I know that this world is tough and hardships will always come, but if we look to the sky and ask our Heavenly Father, He will definitely help us know no matter what. Please keep praying and asking: because when you do, anything is possible. I say these things in the Holy and Sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen. :)

How I live my faith

I am a recent convert to the LDS faith, however I always attend sacrament meetings (aka Church). I am a part of the Young Womens group and have completed my Personal Progress! :) I am a member of our choir (of course!) I always pay my tithing, I try to fast appropriately (however that's another story for a rainy day), and always live up to my God's standards. Like they say, I can do all things through Christ!

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Josie
The simplest answer is to pray to God. He knows all (and I mean ALL) and will always show you the answer, either in a big and flashy way (like how I knew the church was true) or he will give you a warm and happy feeling through the Holy Ghost. In any case, He's the one to talk to :) Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Josie
A "Testimony" is your experience in finding out the church is true. This can be through sincere Revelation, or by the Holy Ghost. Every Testimony is different (because we're all different!) and beautiful in their own way. What's your Testimony? :) Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Josie
The Law of Chastity is a law that is in place to reserve sexual intimacy for marriage. This Law helps us keep our raging hormones in check and protects us from harmful diseases and dangerous situations! Plus, by keeping the Law, you can love your spouse (or future spouse :) even more and protect your family from the evil in the world. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Josie
Since I'm a lady, I wear nice dresses that are lower than knee length and a pair of heels to Church (Remember: Church is a Holy place, you don't want God to see you wear a tube top, high heels, and fishnets to Sacrament do you?!) On any other day, I wear what every typical girl wears nowadays, my Aeropostal sweater, jeans, Nikes, skirts, idk everything! :) I celebrate every sort of Holiday! Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Birthdays, you name it! :) I eat everything (despite my Anorexic past) and can drink anything except Coffee, Tea, and Alcohol (It's to keep our bodies clear of addictive substances, but I don't even like any of those anyway) We try to live up to God's standards by being nice and helping those in need. We also love to keep our families together so we may live with them eternally :) Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Josie
Being a Mormon is probably the best thing I have ever come to be. I now feel joy and happiness in my life, I sing more pure, I respect my family more, and I can love again (and unfortunately have crushes too :p ) Now that I have a true church to me, I feel there is balance in the World and that I can live in God's glory without the burdens of my sins on my shoulders :) Show more Show less
