Hi I'm Skyler Sinks

I'm a BYU student. I'm from Austin, TX. I enjoy playing my guitar, snowboarding. I am going on a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm leaving in a few weeks to serve a mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I'm very excited for this opportunity to serve the Lord! I graduated from high school a year ago from a little town outside of Austin, Texas called Dripping Springs High School. I played football and lacrosse there. I love music and going to concerts. I enjoy playing my guitar. I recently picked up snowboarding after moving to Utah to go to college at BYU. My family now resides in Utah also which is nice to be close to home.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but that does not necessarily mean that I was converted into this gospel just like that. I really gained a testimony of this church when I moved from Utah to Texas before my Sophomore year of high school. I was surrounded by members of the church at my school when I lived in Utah and suddenly there were no members at all. I learned real quick that people were very interested in my church and that I was going to be questioned about it on almost a daily basis. I gained good friends after I would share my testimony with them and they would come to respect me. What I really like about this church is its values of family and the standards we are held accountable for. Many of my nonmember friends would say that I am restricted because I cannot drink or do drugs or have sex due to my church standards. I realized that I am not restricted at all and rather I have more freedom because I do not have to face the consequences of those things. Also I feel safe at my church and loved. I knew that being with the members of this church is where I am supposed to be rather than making poor decisions with people that did not share the same values and standards as myself.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving diligently in my ward calling and doing my home teaching. Also by preparing myself to go and serve an honorable full time mission. I share my testimony whenever I can with friends who are not of my faith.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Skyler Sinks
The word of wisdom always hit me hard in high school because I always had a ton of friends who would do these things and not think twice about them, and that is there decision. I just chose not to do them. Don't get me wrong I was always tempted but I would do my best to not be in that situation to prevent that temptation by not going to certain parties or events. I know that God has blessed us with these amazing bodies and keeping the word of wisdom protects our bodies and keeps them healthy, and it shows our faith in God. Show more Show less
