Hi I'm Patti Perkins

I grew up in a small farming community in Idaho. I love being a mom and wife of our family of seven and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small farming community. I worked on the potato farm and that is where I met my husband, who was working for my dad. We married and now I am a mom of five grown children. I like to cook and just spend time with my children and grandchildren. We have water fights, play games, play with toys, eat and just visit with each other. Every few years we all get together and go camping for a week. Everyone works and helps each other. Being around my family brings me great joy. I watch my children grow, go off to college and become parents of their own with challenges of raising small children and finances and keeping their families safe, healthy and happy. It gives me great joy to see my children choose to do what is right. It is so wonderful to get together and share with each other in love. I like it when my children call or the grandchildren Skype or text me. My children and my husband are the most precious things I have. I was blessed to be a stay at home mom and to be able to be home when my children needed me. To be their friend when they felt they didn't have any, to be a shoulder to cry on when life became a challenge, to answer a call when they felt they were in an unsafe place, to set an example of a godly women who loves them but also loves God. To talk to them about choices and consequences, and what will make them happy. To spend hours talking to them late at night after activities and just listen and love them. Oh what joy it is to be a mother.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is a way of life for me and it gives me comfort and peace. Not the peace like from war but an inner peace, or contentment. Life is full of trials and we must all face our own but we need not do it alone. I know that I have a church that will help and love me and raise me up when I am down. I also know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me. I know this because of experiences with Him. He has comforted me when others around me could not. He has heard my prayers and miracles happen. When we have had to move because of a job I see His hand as I look back and he knows what has been best for me and my family even when I was not as sure. Not every prayer is answered but when answers don't come I just have to have faith that I still know He loves me and wants me to have joy, and he is looking out for me. I am grateful to belong to a church that helps me grow and do things that are out of my comfort zone. Like singing, praying or taking on leadership responsibilities that I feel so inadequate at doing but I am strengthened through Christ making it possible to do all things that I am asked to do, whether that be playing with a 2 year old or working with the teenagers, or going on camp outs, or helping with the scouting program or preparing and giving lessons and talks. All those things make me a better person and add to my life. The church gives me opportunities to serve others and helps me realize that great joy and new friendships happen when we serve those around us. I love being a Mormon it is who I am and a way of life from raising my children to developing my talents the church has helped. I know that Jesus is my Savior and that he knows my trials and pain and knows how to succor me. I know that when I do things I shouldn't I can repent and know that he has paid the price for my sins. I know that by His love and grace I can return to live with Him and with my Heavenly Father if I do all that I can. I look forward to that day.

How I live my faith

I enjoy being a member of my church. There are so many bad things out in the world it gives me peace to know that I can pray to my Heavenly Father and receive guidance and know what I need to do to be happy. I work with all the sisters in our church. I make sure that they are watched over by others sisters who report back to me every month. I take great comfort in knowing that if there are problems we can work together to help solve them. We also meet once a month and discuss different topics that help us as women and mothers and children of a Heavenly Father. I pray every day for help in knowing who needs my help. On some days it is my own children and on other days I call or go visit those whom I feel could use a hand of friendship. I like to read the scriptures and be reminded of the Savior and how he taught. I try to be kind and fair and not judge those around me. We are all just doing the best we can. I try to think about how others feel and to remember they are someone's child and that they are a child of God just like I am. Some times it is hard to patient with children and the choices they make but I can't make them do things all I can do is love them and show them how to be happy by following Christ.
