Hi I'm Michael

I have lived in Utah my whole life. I am about to leave with the first 18 year old missionaries. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I received my mission call two months ago, to the Botswana Namibia Mission, while I was still seventeen years old. I turned eighteen last month. I graduated from high school this month. I leave for the South Africa Missionary Training Center, in eighty-three day and counting. Right now, I am still having a hard time deciding whether I am more excited or nervous to go. It feels so weird knowing that in a few months, I will be in the furthest country in the world from Utah. So thinking about it can be scary at times, but I know with a surety that I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing, I know that I will be protected and watched over, and I know that I will give everything I can out there for two years, so I can look back on my life in another eighteen years and say "I did good." Knowing that Heavenly Father is proud of the work I did for my fellow brothers and sisters.

Why I am a Mormon

Like I said earlier, I grew up in the church. So even if you don't have some awesome conversion story when you got taught by the missionaries or whatever it is, if you are a true member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, you have had a real conversion, when you get that moment that you know that the church is true. With most people that is after the baptism. With me, I have that everyday. There isn't day that goes by that I don't learn something new through studying the scriptures and prayer. With me, I have always believed the church was true. But those times when I get my true conformation, is like what I talked about before, when you are backed against the wall and it seems like there is no way out, the Lord steps in shows you a miracle. The biggest reason is because there is literally not a single doubt in my mind that the church is true. How could I not be a Mormon when I know it is true. I have knowledge of where we were, where we are, and where we are going. There is a few reasons why I try to be the best I can be everyday and in everything. Because I want to be able to stand before Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in that judgement day and not be ashamed of myself, that I proved that I could love my enemies because of their example and because they commanded it, and because of my love for them I followed and I deserve to be in there presence through all eternity. But the last reason is because when you try your best in every way, you want nothing else. I would rather die now than make really bad choices or be mean to people. when you follow the gospel of Jesus Christ, it makes you a better person, it makes you more like him, that is my ultimate goal that is why I strive to do my best everyday, that is why I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church one the earth today. And I know that the day is at hand when Jesus Christ will make his return to Earth. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I have been active in the church my entire life, a big part of that would be accredited to my parents. I have served as presidents in my youth quorums. I had the opportunity this school year, to serve as Seminary Class President. In all of those callings, I have tried my best to be the best leader I can, I have definitely had some good lessons learned on how to be a better leader. Seminary Presidents have many responsibilities, but the one that is the most important is to be there to help your struggling classmates or those who are in need of help. But the best thing that I got out of seminary is that it helped me progress myself. I am a very shy person, especially when it comes to talking in front of big groups of people. Which is what I had to do everyday in Seminary. That was a huge trial for me. So what I did was pray to the Lord for strength and help in my time of need. I did this continually, I asked for this more than anything in my prayers for months. I can testify that I received help, comfort, and my prayer did get answered. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” ST. MATTHEW 11:28-30 That is my favorite scripture, I found it while I was doing my reading for Seminary. That was the scripture that inspired me to ask of God when my trials seemed bigger than me. I promise to you that no trial is bigger than you when you ask God in faith.
