Hi I'm Benjamin

I am from Colorado. I love hiking and archery. I love to sing and am a student at BYU now serving a mission in Brazil.

About Me

Hello, my name is Benjamin. I am 19 years old and the oldest of four children. I was born in Salt Lake City but moved to Colorado when I was very young. My father is a mechanical engineer and my mother is a science teacher. So, as you can imagine, we are a very logical and detail oriented family. I am a graduate of Arapahoe High School where I was actively involved on in the choir and theater programs, the science bowl team, and the National Honor Society. I enjoy the outdoors and recently completed my adventure as a boy scout. I earned the rank of eagle when I was 15 and consider myself on the path to be a future leader. I just finished my freshman year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I am studying to be a mechanical engineer like my father. At BYU I was a member of the BYU Men’s Chorus and sang a variety of songs in multiple concerts. I love BYU. I love spending time with friends and family and I am always up for playing a card or board game. I was recently called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to serve in the Brazil, Fortaleza mission speaking Portuguese. I am happy to be a missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

I could say that I am a Mormon because I was born into the church and my parents are faithful members, but I know that this could not explain the feeling in my heart that this is the true church of God on the earth. My belief in God, in the Book of Mormon, and in my Church does not come from parents or leaders from my youth, but from a burning in my own soul that God loves me, this is His church, and He has a work for me to do. I am a Mormon because as I have read the scriptures and prayed in faith God has witnessed to me through His Holy Spirit that I am His son, Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and this is the church with the fullness of the Gospel on the earth. This spiritual witness is not just a shallow hope that this beautiful gospel might be true, but a literal feeling that it is true. There is a God and He has a plan for us. My witness of the truthfulness of this gospel did not come all at once, but slowly over time as I showed faith and trust in my Heavenly Father. He has blessed my greater light and knowledge as I diligently seek to know Him. I know that everyone can have this knowledge and hope as the pray in faith for a witness of the truth.

How I live my faith

As a student at BYU and a missionary, it may seem easy for me to live my faith. However, even surrounded by those who believe the same things I do, living my faith still takes dedication and personal accountability. I have learned that believing in Christ and his gospel is a choice and not something that simply happens by surrounding yourself with people of strong testimony. So I choose to live my faith by studying the Holy Scriptures and words of the prophets every day. I do my best to keep my mind focused on the eternal perspective and see the divine potential in everyone. I set goals to help both myself and the work of God progress on the earth. I know I have a purpose here on the earth and I strive to do my duty while seeking for guidance and aid from a loving Heavenly Father. I live my faith by honoring the power of God given to me through His holy priesthood. I also attend church meetings regularly and partake of the sacrament each week to keep myself committed to live the gospel of Christ. I live my faith by serving in the temple when I can to help my fellow men. I currently live my faith serving a full time mission to help and bless the people of Brazil. I have dedicated two years of my life to serving the Lord and his children by proclaiming His gospel to all who will listen. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to give back to the Lord for all that he has blessed me with. I know that as I live my faith I receive blessings from God and a greater increase of faith in Him.
