Hi I'm Eric

I am serving a mission in the breath-taking state of Alaska! The only thing better than the Alaskan Bush is that I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in one of the smallest towns in Idaho, which might mean it's one of the smallest towns in the U.S. Our city sign reads - Welcome to Declo, "My Town, My Home" Pop. 375. I'm going off to college after I finish serving a mission in Anchorage, Alaska. I worked hard to excel in high school and I'm excited for college to come. My choices include Utah State University (Go Aggies!) or University of Southern California (Go Trojans!). I have really enjoyed business classes and clubs in high school and I have decided to major in Marketing with a minor emphasis on music. I have played the piano since 3rd grade and have grown to love it more than anything but my Savior. As I have grown up in an LDS home I have gained a strong testimony of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, and Joseph Smith. This knowledge and firm belief are what get me through anything that comes my way. Serving a Mission has changed me more than anything I had ever expected. So many things in this world lead you to think that true happiness comes from gaining wealth, authority, influence or rank. I have to admit that I thought that way for most of my life. If nothing else, spending each day as a missionary in selfless service towards everyone around me has affirmed the brilliant truth of the Savior's promise, "Whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it." (Mark 8:35)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that my Savior lives. I have read the Book of Mormon. I have prayed to know that it is true, and I have been given an answer. I have felt the Holy Ghost witness to me that Christ lives, that the Book of Mormon is true and it was translated by Joseph Smith through the power of God. I know this is true and I cannot deny it. I love this gospel and the love of the Savior that I feel because of it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by choosing daily, honest and sincere repentance! What a gift! I've learned that repentance is so much more than just asking for forgiveness, it is change. I am seeking to follow the Savior's admonition to, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48) What a great goal, right? Way to grind my hopes and dreams into the ground each day! But really, I am not striving to achieve this goal on my own. My Savior has granted me the opportunity to get there, with His help. That's where repentance and forgiveness comes in. Each day, I strive to become better, to live closer to Him and to share what I love about His teachings with everyone I meet. I know that Heavenly Father loves us all, and He wants us to be perfect, even as He is perfect. Because of our Savior, that is possible. Anything that is unfair in this life can be made right through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. That is the promise I cling to. I pray that you can grasp it too and feel the abiding sense of hope it brings.
