Hi I'm Deborah Raymond

I was born/raised in Idaho (beautiful sunsets), now live in Utah (beautiful mountains). I teach 5th grade and love ah-ha moments!

About Me

I grew up in a family that always had a spare bed and an extra place at the table for anyone who needed it. Our parents started it! We used to say we brought home stray animals while they brought home stray people... from all over the world. We learned that family is more than sharing the same last name! Mom and Dad are on to adventures in heaven but we learned well and still gather people in! I love music, especially amazing vocals with tight harmony. It stirs my soul. I wish I could dance, my husband's poor feet. I play the piano and sing for my own entertainment and for a few years I taught voice and piano lessons. I attempt to sew/quilt. I'm fascinated with herbs, quantum physics and LIGHT! I enjoy reading, traveling, gardening, cooking and anything, make that EVERYTHING, with my husband! He is the joy of my life! We love to laugh and do it so much I consider it exercise, MY kind of exercise. I often take myself too seriously so it helps that my husband, family, friends, and 5th graders help me focus on enjoying the journey. Does that sound like an oldest child? I worked in business for many years but find 10-year olds much more entertaining and eager to learn. I'm learning the distance I travel, my progress each day, is less important than the direction I'm headed and the people I share the journey with, that it's not about how "fast" I "get there" but about loving people along the way! Way more fun! I love my God, my family, my freedom, lemon bars, tulips and LIGHT!

Why I am a Mormon

Because it makes me happy!!! That's the short answer! The longer answer is that I can't imagine my life any other way! It's who I am! I was raised in a faithful Latter-Day Saint (Mormon) home; not perfect just faithfully trying! One day I asked myself if I live this way because I was raised to live this way or if I live this way because I believe it! I realized I believe for myself! There is so much "hope" in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and so much "help" in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! We are taught and empowered with the knowledge and ordinances and covenants that help us progress through this life and into the eternal world... back home! Speaking of home...I love these words of William Wordsworth: “Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar: Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come… from God, who is our home.” If you sit quietly you will feel the truth of those inspired words and you will realize Heaven feels familiar to you! We came from God! He is our Home! The gospel of Jesus Christ has answers and explanations about our Heavenly Father's plan to save us, His family! I love my life! Please don't misunderstand... I am full of human frailty and weakness and I sometimes grow weary of the trials and tribulations but with so much HOPE and HELP and PEACE and SAFETY in the Gospel of Jesus Christ... I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I live from the perspective that this life is an important part of something bigger... much bigger! Being children of a Heavenly Father, who desires that we grow up and become all we are capable of becoming, this life is a time and a place to practice doing good, loving people, creating beautiful things, and yes, making mistakes in the process and learning from them. Sometimes I'm a slow learner and I have to repeat the lessons over and over and...I make a lot of mistakes! Darn! I trust that He is patient and intimately involved in the details so I try again. I trust He has reasons for everything; not that He causes everything but that He allows it for my growth and stays near me through it all. It's about learning to be like Him! As for the mistakes... I am more grateful than words that He has provided a Savior, even Jesus Christ, our Elder Brother, to help me clean up the messes I make! I pray often, and as "real" as I can, from the standpoint of being a child coming to her father. I share what makes me happy, what makes me angry, what makes me cry, and I beg for His help to be loving, patient, compassionate, and forgiving! I'm always asking for His help with that last one! I read scriptures daily, attend church/temple weekly and look for opportunities to serve. I believe we are all brothers and sisters, from this big heavenly family, here to learn to become like our "Father"! When I keep that foremost in my mind, I judge less and love more! I'm a work in progress...LOL!

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Deborah Raymond
Through the Holy Ghost and the Book of Mormon combined! The Holy Ghost is the Holy Spirit who testifies of truth. Sometimes his promptings come as a warm or burning feeling in your chest, sometimes he makes your heart pound, sometimes he causes things to make so much sense to your mind you just know, sometimes he gives you tingles or tears, sometimes ideas just keep coming back, pressing their way into your mind. There are other ways too. In all the different ways you may experience the Holy Ghost you will also notice there is always a feeling of peace and joy with it. The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ. By following the pattern outlined in the book itself on page 529, (Moroni 10:3-5) you can learn for yourself that it is true: 1) Read it 2) Ponder it (that just means to think about it) 3) Ask God if it is true 4) Have faith, believe He will answer you because He will through the thoughts and feelings you get from the Holy Ghost. He has promised us that “by the power of the Holy Ghost we can know the truth of all things.” ‘All things’ means the truth about this book, about God, about Mormonism and the truth about anything else in this world that is important to you. If you would like a copy of the Book of Mormon just click on the chat button and let them know you would like one which will be the fastest way to receive it, or I would be happy to mail you one! Just let me know! It is my prayer that God will answer your prayer. Happy reading and God bless! Show more Show less
