Hi I'm Kalissa

I'm a runner, I love autumn and really big trees, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Washington but I have spent most of my life in Missouri where the ground is flat and the clouds are spectacular. I am currently studying food science at a university, and though it may sound incredibly boring, when I graduate I want to be a food safety or quality assurance analyst in the food industry. I love running and hiking through nature – there is [almost] nothing better than running down a trail with the trees towering over you, the wind blowing past you, and the birds singing above you. I love stars, foggy mornings, sunrises, grapefruit, and waking up early. The library is one of my favorite places, and I love reading and learning new things. I love singing and I love life! I have recently been called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Brazil, and I am so excited to serve my Savior and share the gospel and its peace with the people of Brazil!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know (and I don’t use that word lightly) that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ’s true church on the Earth today. I have seen the evidence of its truthfulness in my life. This gospel has changed me, and I am a different person today because of the Book of Mormon and because of the relationship with my Father in heaven and with Christ that this book and this church have helped me develop. Nothing this world has to offer has given me as much peace and happiness as this gospel has, and I take comfort in the fact that the atonement of Christ isn’t just for the righteous or for everyone else, but it is for ME. It allows me to repent, it enables me to change, and it gives me hope that I can live with my family and with my Heavenly Father again. I’m a Mormon because I believe in modern revelation and that God loves his children today just as much as he loved his children in the past. There is a prophet living on the earth today, and he speaks the words of Christ and gives us guidance on how to live our lives so that we can make it back to live with our Heavenly Father. I love my Savior, and I want nothing more than to be an instrument in His hands. With His help, I can accomplish any task set before me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to become more like my Savior. He led a perfect life, and I know I will never go wrong if I just try to follow the example of Christ and do what Jesus would do if He were in my situation. Christ loved everyone, He served everyone, and He prayed for everyone, and I try my best to do just that – love, serve, and pray. I’m a strong believer that the small daily things that we do in our lives ultimately make the biggest difference and over time shape who we are and who we will become. I strive to make scripture study and prayer an integral part of my everyday life, and as I look back on my life, I can see how these small actions have shaped the person I have become. I love being happy, and I strive to be optimistic and recognize God’s hand in my life and in everything that happens to me. Realizing all of my many blessings helps motivate me to live my faith and to never give up – even when the going gets tough!
