Hi I'm Luke

I study Accounting and Finance. I enjoy running and playing tennis, and I love to bake. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small village in the Yorkshire countryside, so I love spending time outside. I am the fourth child of eight which meant there was always lots happening. My favourite thing to do on a Friday night is to travel to random parts of the UK and go to dances organised by other Mormon students. I am infamous for my crazy dance moves. I have competed on various levels in both athletics, cross country running and tennis, this active lifestyle allows me the opportunity to feed my love for all things sweet. I recently started teaching myself to play the piano, it is one of the hardest things that I have ever tried to do, but being able to play my first song made it all worthwhile.

Why I am a Mormon

Early in their married life my grandparents came into contact with missionaries from the Mormon church. After being taught about the gospel they readily accepted the message. This therefore meant that my parents taught me the gospel throughout my childhood. They encouraged us to study the scriptures and pray to God to seek answers to our own questions, in the hope that we would find the truth. As a result of the example and teaching of my parents and those around me I sought for my own beliefs. This desire to know truth eventually led me to sincerely begin my journey to find the real truth. I felt the Holy Spirit witness to me that the teachings of the Book of Mormon are true, and that by following them I would come closer to God than by any other means. As I have put these principles into practise I truly feel that I am the happiest that I could ever be. It is therefore because of the happiness that I feel as I live the gospel and the various confirmations of truth that I have received as I have lived and shared the gospel with others, that I continue to live the principles of the gospel.

How I live my faith

My responsibilities at church include organising dances and various activities such as Chinese New Year celebrations and sporting competitions. I also oversee the spiritual needs of the young adults in North and West Yorkshire, this includes having church leaders give lessons and presentations on a weekly basis. I also work alongside the missionaries, assisting them in teaching others about the church's beliefs and standards. Before going to university, I felt the desire to go and teach others about the knowledge that I have learnt about who God is and how we can communicate with Him, what our purpose is whilst we are here on earth and how the guilt associated with doing wrong can be removed through Jesus Christ. These truths taught by the church have been particularly poignant to me. As I served my mission it became apparent that these truths, which I sometimes had taken for granted, were what others had long searched for answers to. This along with my love for the Saviour motivated me to continue to teach those who are interested in finding answers to various spiritual questions now that I am a student at university. Sharing Jesus Christ's gospel will be a life-long pursuit for me.
