Hi I'm Sterling

I am a missionary in Rome, Italy. I am a gymnast and I teach missionaries how to do backflips. And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love living in Italy and being a full-time missionary here! I am a gymnast and have been teaching backflips to missionaries I serve with--they love it. I was a self-starter in gymnastics then started going to a gym and after a couple of years of practice I made it to nationals! I taught it for a couple of years to save money for my mission and I learned a lot of principles of how to teach things from scratch. It's cool to be able to relate to my students because I was once at the point they are at, and being a missionary I can do the same thing with those I teach here. It's a great experience! I am very passionate about food and so Italy is an awesome place to discover the rustic tastes of Ancient Italy. #freshpasta I love art and the myriad of ways to look at it. That's one reason I love being in the Rome Italy mission so much! The Italian language is beautiful, full of life, and expressive--mi piace assai! I was born in the church and was baptized at 8 years old but didn't really begin my personal search until about the end of high school. That's when I realized I needed the Lord's guidance in my life the most and He has blessed me ever since I started developing my relationship with him and now I am a full-time missionary. I am grateful for the many opportunities He gave me to find my faith and I am really happy I finally chose to act on one of those opportunities to bring me to this point in my life. I am much happier now following the Lord!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been able to come unto Christ because of the friends I have chosen. I was an inactive kid in the church when I was around 14, but ever since I started going to Seminary in Junior High school, my friends helped me to see the light that turned my life around and lead to me to where I am today. Now, I am a stronger person because of the trials I endured before my friends fellowshipped me into the church and I am forever grateful for their Christ-like examples. I continue to be a faithful member of the church because of the happiness it brings me, as well as the peace in brings in times of turmoil. I love the Book of Mormon and the Bible because of all that we can learn about the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings. I never thought I could be as happy as I am living the commandments of the Church of Jesus Christ. The church is true, the book is blue, and Jesus was a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I teach Italians the gospel in their native tongue, just like the prophets of old! #Alma I study the scriptures and seek the knowledge that I lack and put what I learn into practice. I try a little harder to be a little bit better each day, despite life's curve balls (which are many). I pray a lot throughout each day because I know that I need the Lord's guidance to have success in my life and find the happiness He wants me to have. I try to find opportunities to serve others, even if it's just making my companion's messy bed. #AnzianoJuhasz In serving others, I find joy and answers to my prayers!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Not all members are required to serve a mission. President Thomas S. Monson has declared that "every worthy, able young man should serve a mission." It is a priesthood responsibility to declare the word of God to all nations and to participate in the "gathering of Israel," or those of God's children who have not yet accepted/heard of the gospel. While it is a responsibility of the brothers to serve, the sisters have the opportunity to serve, as well. I know that it is a great blessing to give up two years of our lives to help others be with theirs forever. While it is not required of all members to serve a full-time mission, there are other missionary opportunities that all members should participate in. The first presidency has declared it a responsibility of the members of the church to be a "member missionary" and to share the gospel as much as they can. Show more Show less
