Hi I'm Matthew

I grew up and still live in Indiana. I studied physics in college. I'm a geek. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of two children in my family, I have one older sister. I enjoy watching sports and I'm a die hard Indianapolis Colts fan. I like science fiction movies and TV shows as well as video games.

Why I am a Mormon

I converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint while I was a junior in college. I was not raised in any religion and by time I was an adult I had rejected religion as a whole in my life. I learned about the church during a religious studies class I was taking. There I first learned about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon and became very curious about the religion. I was intrigued to the point that I learned more about the church outside of class on my own. As I learned more I pondered if the things I was learning was true. Over time I ran into some missionaries on the street and some more came knocking on my door and I eventually took lessons from them. After having some of my questions answers and attending church services and was able to gain my testimony of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel. I was later baptized and since then the gospel has the greatest source of happiness in my life.

How I live my faith

My faith is the core of who I am. I strive to live up to the teachings of Jesus Christ throughout my day and specially my interactions with other people. I attend church weekly and frequently teach Sunday School classes. For most of my family and friends I am the only Mormon they know and I do my best to be an example of the Savior and serve them as He would.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Matthew
The actual name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, during the early days of the church some people gave members of the church the nickname "Mormon" due to our belief in The Book of Mormon. And since then "Mormonism" has become a nickname for our religion as a whole. Although these are unofficial terms, most members of the church don't take offense to using them. Show more Show less
