Hi I'm Leisa Higbee

I sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single mother of 4 boys. My oldest son has Down Syndrome and served a service mission at the MTC in Provo, UT. He is amazing and continues to teach me the important things of life. My second son, served a mission in Ghana Africa. I was able to go to Ghana and pick him up at the conclusion of his 2 year mission. It was one of the highlights of my life, and life changing for both of us. My third son has chosen not to be involved with the church. He is gay, and though it has been difficult to understand, I love him so much and am thankful for all that he teaches me. My youngest son is serving a mission for our church in Manchester, England. His choice to serve is bringing blessings to me and our home. I have one daughter-in-law who is as close to perfect as is possible (My first girl!!). She has given me 2 grandchildren!! A girl and a boy (Irish Twins-11 months apart). They light up my life! I never dreamed it would be so much fun!! I love every second I am with them. I am a Hair and Makeup Artist. I have a Salon in my home. I also contract with different companies, and do hair and makeup for their photo shoots, and video shoots. I feel very blessed to have been given so many opportunities to grow: Beautiful children, that have taught me so much about myself, and about my purpose in life. A couple of divorces that have taught me forgiveness and faith, and work - that as a single mother, allows me to be involved in the lives of those that I love the most!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. But even someone who is born into it, must be converted to it on a personal level. One of the most beautiful things that the church teaches, is that we can each know for ourselves, by the Spirit of the Holy Ghost if it is true. My deep testimony has only come after great sacrifice. I get up early, and begin each day unto the Lord by, studying the scriptures, the teachings of the prophets, and earnest prayer. By beginning my day by "armed" with God's Truth's, I am much more able to withstand the fiery darts of the adversary. Focusing spiritually throughout the day by prayer, helps me to make better choices that keep me in the light of my Savior's love. I know that I am a daughter of a Heavenly Father who loves me. This knowledge helps me make choices and keep my promises to Him. I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and my personal Savior. I know that Joseph Smith is the prophet of the restoration. He saw God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ. He translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. It is true! I have read it many times, and I testify that if you read it, you too can know by the power of the Holy Ghost it is true. I testify of these things, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I have recently been given the honor of becoming a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. When I was a little girl, I dreamed of singing with this amazing choir. So many difficult things have happened in my life, that did not allow me to audition until this year. I am 54, and there is a mandatory retirement from the choir at age 60. You are only allowed to audition until you are 55, so I cut it really close! About 2 years ago, I had a very strong impression from the Spirit that I should prepare myself to audition and so I did. It was a wonderful 2 years of growth and faith. I worked so hard to prepare for each phase of the audition. When I was finished, I knew that I had done everything within my power. Now it was in Heavenly Father's hands. When I when I received the final letter of acceptance/denial, I knelt down to pray before I opened it. I expressed to Heavenly Father that I would do whatever He wanted me to do. If I needed to audition again next year, I would keep working hard to prepare. If He wanted me to be in the choir, I would consecrate my time, talents and my heart to glorifying Him through my music. My heart truly was ready for either way. I opened my letter and read that I had been called as a "Musical Missionary" for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!! I feel so honored to be able to serve my Heavenly Father in this unique way. My home has been richly blessed by this music as I am practicing A LOT! I LOVE IT!
