Hi I'm Josiah

I was born and raised in Salem, Oregon. I absolutely love it there. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been involved in many things as I have grown up. In high school I was involved in our school orchestra. I play the viola (about 10 years now). I am a huge theatre fan and I love to be part of shows too. I love to swim, read, draw, and also write (only a bit though). I love the outdoors, nature is truly amazing. I also love animals. Some of my favorites are turtles, pandas, horses, dogs, cats, just about any animal really. Not so much the reptilian ones other than turtles.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? Well, when I was born my mother was in active and my father was not even a member. When I was about three years old my father was baptised and later we were sealed as a family for all time and eternity. I guess that's why; or at least the foundation of it because as I grew up I started to wonder if being Mormon was even worth it. It seemed like there were too many rules keeping me from doing what I wanted to. But as I attended church, read my scriptures, prayed every day and asked questions that I had to my parents, and other church leaders I began to understand that the LDS church is the true church. I read the Book of Mormon and I prayed about what is asked of us in Moroni 10. When I was done praying I had tears in my eyes for I knew that the church was true, that God loves me, and that there is a life after death where we can be with our families forever in the eternity.

How I live my faith

I love being a member, I can feel true joy in life. Yes life is hard sometimes but I always try and focus on the good things in life that I can enjoy. I have held several callings as a youth and now as an adult I also hold a calling as a family home evening group leader. In this calling I coordinate with a lovely young woman about what our activities will be. Every Monday her roommates and mine get together for a spiritual thought, wholesome activities and of course refreshments. I love my calling I read my scriptures often but I know I can always do better. I am right now at BYU-Idaho. I love it here; the spirit is so strong here and it's hard being away from my family yes. But it had to happen sooner or later, especially since I am going on my mission in October! I have been called to the Washington DC North mission! My neighbors here at school are also amazing. As a group we go and have fun. Last time we went out we played ultimate Frisbee in the dark! We all had glow sticks on and the Frisbee light up so we could see it as it was in the air. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the best part of my life for I know that I can live with heavenly father again and that no matter what mistakes I have made I can be forgiven and feel better about myself enough to start anew.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

No we do not ONLY help other Mormons. Just like the parable of the good Samaritan, we look for chances to serve anyone we can however we can. Not matter where they come from, what they believe or what they look like we are asked to serve. Even if it's helping that kid that dropped his books all over the busy hallway floor, helping that elderly lady cross the street or even helping that mother with rowdy kids get her groceries to her car. We are asked to serve, because whenever we do, we are serving the Lord. Show more Show less
