Hi I'm Kristy

I grew up in California. I love American Sign Language and I love life. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up near San Francisco where I loved all of the diversity around me (food, music, ideas, people, backgrounds, etc). After high school I started at Utah State University where I'm studying Deaf/Elementary Education. I love using sign language to express myself and hope to eventually teach at a deaf residential school. I love to randomly burst into song and quote musicals with my family. I like all kinds of dancing but love ballroom dancing. I love to read and could happily spend all day tucked away in a cornor reading -- if I could find the time! I love working with children and hope to someday have a family of my own. I will be taking a break from school to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am so excited to have the chance to serve my Heavenly Father, and I hope to make Him proud.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My parents taught me to love the Lord, and to never be afraid to ask Him questions. So I did. I asked my Heavenly Father, through prayer, many questions. Who was I? Did God love me? Was the church my parents had taught me about true? Was the Book of Mormon true scripture? I received answers to my prayers through the years. I am a daughter of deity, a child of the Most High God. My Heavenly Father loves me, always has, and always will. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's church on earth today. The Book of Mormon is a true record of Christ's dealings with His people in ancient America. I became a Mormon because of my parents. I remained Mormon because of Christ. This is HIS church. I am a Mormon because this church gives me peace. It makes me happy. It gives me hope. Hope that I don't have to sort through this life on my own. Hope that someone infinitely more wise and powerful than me has a plan and is at the helm. Why am I a Mormon? The real question is why would I NOT be a Mormon? I love being Mormon, and cannot imagine anything that would make me nearly as happy.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite ways of expressing my faith is through song. I started singing with my church choir when I was 12 and have done so ever since. Whenever I am up at school, in college, I am very involved in Institute Choir ("Institute" is a church program that offers activities and religious classes to college students). Songs allow me to express feelings I have a hard time putting into words: feelings of gratitude, love, hope, trust and joy. I am never more happy, nor feel closer to my Savior, than when I am singing praises to Him. Another way I live my faith is by living the way The Savior did. Everyday I try to love s Christ did, and to serve as Christ did. I know that every person on this Earth is a child of God. Knowing that changes how I look at the people around me. I try to treat every person I meet as Christ would, and to help them draw closer to Him.
