Hi I'm John

I was born in up-state New York and raised as a Methodist. At 32 I joined the LDS Church in Germany. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was very active in Boy Scouting as a youth. I obtained an amateur radio license at age 16 and have been an active "ham" ever since (over 50 years). I was a shipboard radioman in the U.S. Navy. I moved to Germ any at age 25 and attended a trade school and became a Journeyman in Electromechanics. Then I worked as a telephone man for several years and finally as a radio transmitter technician at Kiel Radio, a federal ship-to-shore radio facility. I returned to America after 16 years in Germany, living in Utah, where I worked as a telephone man and a two-way radio installation and systems technician for a couple years before attending college, where I obtained a degree in Radiologic Technology. I worked in this field (radiology) for twenty years before retiring at age 66. I have four children. Two boys and two girls.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the LDS Church because after searching for two years for the true church, I came across the LDS missionaries, who taught me. I had searched everywhere for the one true church, which I wholeheartedly felt existed somewhere on earth. Until I heard the teachings of the missionaries, I never felt the Spirit of God. Their message, along with the reading of the Book of Mormon on my part, brought on the Holy Ghost so strongly that I knew in my heart it was true. The Spirit witnessed to me that it was true. It was undeniable. Now, when I compare the first 32 years of my life without this, with the remainder of my life, it is like night and day. I have been blessed beyond measure, and my happiness is immense. During life's ups and downs I've been blessed with strength and vision. I know who I am, and whom I will become if I remain true and faithful to the Gospel of Christ. I observe the Church and can see how perfectly it is organized and how it works. It is always a testimony to me of its divinity. It is truly the Lord's Kingdom on earth.

How I live my faith

Since my baptism at age 32 in Germany, I have served in many callings such as branch presidency councilor twice, branch secretary, branch mission leader, branch elders quorum president( priesthood holders ages 19-40) , ward emergency preparedness leader, high priest group (Priesthood holder ages 40 & up)secretary twice, high priest group councilor, home teacher (visits & attends to assigned families) throughout all the time since my baptism, stake emergency communications specialist (provides leadership to the stake (over 3000 members) regarding its emergency radio equipment for each ward (parish) as well as the stake presidency (over the parishes). Participate in numerous service projects to support and aid the members.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

I have learned from personal experience that as I move forward and obey the various commandments of God, He blesses me, sometimes in several ways. Each of His commandments are never seen as a restriction to me, since each of them result in blessings. They protect me and my family. They move me closer to Christ as a person, and I become more 'suited' to be in His presence some day. As I so these things, my faith deepens and strengthens. Read Alma 32:28-43 in the Book of Mormon; one of my favorites. Show more Show less
