Hi I'm Carmen

I love books, movies, music, water parks, and family time. I am serving as a missionary in Londrina Brazil. I'm a Mormon

About Me

My mother joined the church when I was 2 years old so I've grown up in the church. I lived in Maryland until I was twelve and then I moved to the great state of Texas. I went to college at BYU but I am currently taking time off to serve a mission in Londrina Brazil. When I get back I will finish school and get a degree in Psychology. I love anything pop culture. Books, movies, music, you name it! Half the time I'm speaking in movie quotes. I love spending time with my family. We love to get together to barbecue and play board games.

Why I am a Mormon

When I moved away from home I really got to reflect on this question. I feel like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helps me draw closer to my Heavenly Father. I feel that through the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and the words of the living prophet ,Thomas S Monson, I have gotten to know my Savior better. I feel the Holy Ghost guide me when I receive priesthood blessings, go to the temple, and read the scriptures. I know that the restored gospel can help us return to live with our Heavenly Father because I have prayed and asked.

How I live my faith

I love being a visiting teacher. We are assigned two or three sisters that we visit every month. We really get to know each other on a personal level. We can rely on each other if we are ever in need of help. We also get to share some amazing spiritual experiences and uplift each other. Currently I am serving as a missionary in Londrina Brazil. For 18 months I will live in Brazil, learn Portuguese, and help others come unto Christ. We spend 100% of our time devoted to sharing the gospel and serving God's children.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Heavenly Father gave us the gift of agency. This is the freedom to choose between good and evil. Because we are imperfect, The Savior suffered for our sins. When we make a bad choice, we can be freed from guilt when we repent and follow the commandments. Heavenly Father knew that we would make mistakes but wanted us to have the chance to reutn to His presence once more. As we follow the commandments of God and honestly repent of our sins by applying the Atonement in our lives, Heavenly father will forgive all our mistakes. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

An analogy that has helpe me understand why the priesthood, or authority to act in the name of God, is important is that of the icream man and the police man. If you are speeding past down a road and an icream man stops you and gives you a ticket you wouldn't pay the fine. But if a police man stops you and gives you a ticket you would pay it right away. The difference between the two situations is that the police man has authority. The icecream man may have the best intentions but he does not have the power to hand out tickets. For us to act in the name of God, we must receive the proper authority and maintain worthy to use it. While He was on the Earth, Jesus Christ gave the Twelve Apostles authority to act in His name and to baptize (John 15:16). When they were killed, the authority was lost. When Joseph Smith restored the Church, Jesus Christ had Peter, James ,and John return the authority to the Earth by ordaining Joseph Smith a preisthood holder. Therefore, we now have the authority to baptize in the name of Jesus Christ once more on the Earth. Show more Show less
