Hi I'm Mercina

I'm a student at Yale University. I like to whistle and read good books. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 21, so I'm still deciding what this section should be filled with. Some important points: I grew up in a crazy close-knit, highly-unconventional family in Denver, Colorado. My parents never did things the normal way - which colored my entire upbringing. They both joined the church during undergrad at Yale and later eloped to the temple. My mom's parents were survivors of the Holocaust which resulted in a relatively lonely childhood. She wanted to have a big family. She did. Mom and dad were hippies. They had 10 kids and gave us middle names like Sunshine, Rainbow, and Wisdom...Really. My mom is kind of the ultimate feminist. She used her three Ivy-league degrees to educate my siblings and me at home - because that's exactly what she wanted to do. We became a hugely eccentric lot of tree-hugging, civically minded, vegetarian Mormons. I'm taking the next year and a half to serve a mission for my church in Montreal. When I come back I'll dive into my senior year at Yale where I study all things medical, bioethical, legal, and political. Hobbies include: whistling, arranging flowers, listening to NPR, baking, promoting organ donation, The New Yorker, travelling, picking berries, reading obscene amounts of Tolstoy and Jane Austen, blogging, and eating more tangy yogurt than anyone should....

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but I've been blessed with lots of opportunities to explore different religious traditions. I love learning about other faiths and discussing religion with all sorts of people. There's a lot to be learned from religions outside my own, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that the church is true. I have a strong testimony of personal revelation. I know that if I pray sincerely the Lord will answer me. I believe the Lord has a plan for all of us, and I know I'm happiest when I'm following His plan for me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by loving the Lord and sincerely trying to remember Him throughout my days.
