Hi I'm Spencer

I love ice hockey, soccer, singing, and dancing. I served as a missionary in Finland. I study genetics and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I have a lot of hobbies. I love to be active and I love the outdoors. I especially love singing and dancing. I played ice hockey throughout high school and love to play pretty much any sport. I served as a missionary for the church in the beautiful land of Finland. Finland and Scandinavia in general are very special places to me. I study genetics and biotechnology at the university. Learning and education are important parts of my life. There is so much to know and to learn, and I believe that God wants us to learn as much as we can. Learning is so fun as well! I come from a big family with a lot of brothers. I love spending time with my family. My little brothers and I love to play sports, go hiking, biking, watch movies, play games and pretty much just do everything together.

Why I am a Mormon

I have grown up in the church since I was little. My parents are both members and I grew up with them teaching me about Jesus Christ and about what He taught. Many times people have asked me why I'm a Mormon, and how do I know that what I believe is right when I have grown up with the gospel in my life. Although I have always known about the gospel, I haven't always known that it is true. There was a time in my life, when I started thinking on a deeper level wondering if I really believed what I thought I believed and if I did than why? I prayed a lot and tried to study the scriptures asking God to help me know if He is really there and if what I had grown up believing was really true. My testimony that this gospel is true didn't come all at once. It came little by little. Sometimes it felt like it came so slowly that I didn't even realize that my faith was growing. God speaks to us sometimes in simple ways, but I know that if we are listening and searching for truth and for guidance, He will always be there to answer us. As I have continued to pray and read the scriptures and strive to become more like Jesus Christ, I have felt me testimony and knowledge of the truth continue to grow. This has brought me so much peace. Simply said, I am a Mormon, because Heavenly Father answers prayers, because I have felt his deep love more me, and because the gospel that He has given us has brought me nothing but joy and peace! I know that this joy and peace can last forever thanks to our Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

In our church there are so many different things we can do to show our faith and to live what we believe. In the church we are often given callings, or things we can do in our congregations to help and lift and bless each other. Recently I have been able to work with a group of members in planning and teaching the Sunday school lessons for Sunday. Now I get to conduct the choir in my congregation. Lots of these things I get to do are new to me, but they help me learn, and I can feel the love of my Heavenly Father as I try my best to do them. More importantly though, I live my faith by striving to be like Jesus Christ was. It is very important to me to try to develop attributes such as love, humility, patience, joy, and gratitude. Christ set the perfect example for all of us of how to live and how to follow Him. Every day I try to look for opportunities to show love and to serve others and to just be happy. The gospel is one of happiness and joy. As I have striven to live the principles I know are right, I have felt that joy and happiness so much! I try to remember that every person out there is a precious son or daughter of my Heavenly Father and so I try to treat them as such. I'm not perfect, but I'm learning and it is an exciting process. I try to have the faith to always do what Christ would want me to do.
