Hi I'm Alyssa

I am a Navy Wife, I love music, I like to laugh and I am a Mormon

About Me

I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. I am the second oldest of five children. I was baptized into the LDS church when I was eight years old. After graduating high school in 2008 I became a Nanny to three amazing children and pursued my license as a Certified Nursing Assistant in October of 2009. My Sweetheart proposed to me that same month and we were married on December 21 2009. My husband is a Nuclear Mechanic in the United States Navy and I have proudly supported him through his schooling and two deployments aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. We have two fun loving dogs that keep me busy. Currently we do not have children but will welcome them with loving arms when they come. Just this past January (of 2013) we were able to be sealed together for Eternity in the Raleigh, North Carolina Temple. It was by far the happiest moment in our lives; words cannot express the love we felt from our Heavenly Father or for each other on that wonderful day. I am looking forward to our adventures in life together and hopefully soon becoming a Mother.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer and that through him everyone has the opportunity to return to live with our Father in Heaven. I know that Jesus Christ bore our sins so that we may repent and be forgiven and return to our Heavenly home. I know that Families are important and were designed to help us grow physically strong but also spiritually strong and that process does not end when we become husbands/wives or the parents in our own family unit, it just gives us the opportunity to learn from our spouse and our children’s perspective. I know that our Heavenly Father loves every one of us and knows us personally and is always a loving guide and guardian if we let him be. I have been taught all of this and so much more since I was born, from teachers in the Church and from a loving family but I only came to know the truth of it all when I was willing to pray and ask for the knowledge on my own. When I did pray and ask if all of the things I have been taught were true I received an answer, not through a voice or a huge sign but through a feeling of peace and love throughout my body. I am a Mormon because I know the truth of the gospel of our heavenly father and I feel his love daily in all that surrounds me.

How I live my faith

I try to be a good example to those that surround me in my day to day life. I try to ask myself if my actions represent our father in heaven and if my deeds are pleasing to him. I know that a smile or a kind word or action does go a long way and I look for opportunities to encourage and help others around me. I like to help others where I can, and often the best way for me to do that is by just listening to those around me that need someone to talk to. It is important to me to let my friends and acquaintances know what I believe, by word and by my actions. I am now currently working with and teaching the Young Women, ages 12 to 18, in my ward. I enjoy interacting with the youth and trying to be a good example and strength to them, but also I enjoy learning from their example to me.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

I believe that faith in God strengthens me personally in my marriage by knowing that in times of trial, my husband and I can turn to our Father in Heaven for strength and guidance. Also our faith has helped to strengthen our family relationship by having an example to strive for, knowing that we should try to be happy and loving towards each other always and to easily forgive because that is what God would do.
