Hi I'm Mark Johnston

I was born and raised in Arizona. I like to work hard and have fun. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to work hard and learn new things. I'm kind of the family handyman, fixing everything, doing extensive landscaping and sprinkler work, painting, building, pouring concrete, laying pavers, and anything else that needs doing. If I don't know how to do it, I want to learn. I'm a big NBA fan, and I like to play basketball and soccer. Music has always been a part of my life; the piano and cello are my two instruments of choice, and I sing, too. I'm currently a university student and love learning and having fun with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith is a big part of my life. Every day I make decisions, and with my commitment to live the teachings of Jesus Christ always on my mind, I try to make sure those decisions match what Jesus says to do. Why do I do that? Because living according to the teachings of Jesus Christ brings me happiness. I feel peace of conscience, and I don't have to feel guilty or worry about what I did. When I do mess up and commit sin, as we all do, I can repent through the atonement of Jesus Christ by confessing my sins and asking for forgiveness, with a commitment to do better going forward. Doing so lifts the burden of guilt and shame in a marvelous and wonderful way. Following Jesus Christ hasn't just made a difference; it's made all the difference. Another wonderful thing about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is that families are forever; I can be with my family forever if we live right and do our best to follow Jesus Christ. I love my family and am so thankful for that knowledge.

How I live my faith

I've realized that it's not enough just to avoid doing bad things; I must also do good things. Like Christ, I must go around doing good and helping others. I frequently help people move in and out of my neighborhood. People are always so grateful for help when they are moving. I also have been actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America for the last eight years, and I've particulary enjoyed my role as an assistant Scout leader helping the younger boys learn how to be the best they can be. I try to treat everyone the same with kindness and a smile, as oftentimes a smile is all people need. I try to go out of my way to pay attention to and treat kindly the gas station attendant, the grocery store checkout clerk, and anyone else who looks like they could use a smile and a friendly hello. I'm not perfect, but I try to do and be what Christ would have me do and be.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Mark Johnston
The "Word of Wisdom" is a law that our Heavenly Father revealed to the prophet Joseph Smith in 1833. It is basically a health code, emphasizing the importance of caring for our God-given bodies, and includes counsel from God to avoid tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and illegal drugs. Caffeine is not specifically counseled against; however, we are counseled to avoid any substance, legal or otherwise, that could prove addicting and harmful to our physical health. As with all God-given laws, there are spiritual benefits as well. By avoiding habit-forming or addictive substances, we are better able to follow Christ and be spiritually sensitive. What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Mark Johnston
We absolutely believe in the Bible as Holy Scipture and the word of God. The Bible is wonderful and contains a record of God's dealings with the people of the "Old World" in Europe, the Middle-East, etc. We also believe in the Book of Mormon, a record of God's dealings with the people of the ancient Americas that was translated by the gift and power of God through the prophet Joseph Smith in 1830. The Book of Mormon complements and supports the Bible, and I absolutely believe to be the word of God. I invited any and all who are inerested to read it and find our for yourself. Show more Show less
