Hi I'm Joel Workman

I'm a scientist. I'm a father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm best known for being Heather's husband (she's awesome). I'm also blessed to be the father of four great kids (Natalie, Katie, Jon and Chris) and one granddaughter (Clara) who are my pride and joy. I'm a chemist and owner of an environmental consulting business. Our employees and clients are fantastic. When I'm not working, I love to travel, play golf and work in the yard.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Mormon but I'm also a convert to the church. In other words, I've had to discover for myself that the church is true and right for me. As a chemist, I'm trained to apply the scientific process to discover "truth" - present a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, observe the results, make conclusions and repeat to verify. I've found that this same scientific method can be applied to spiritual questions. Is God real? Should I follow Jesus Christ? Are the scriptures true? Are there living prophets? Should I obey the commandments? I've conducted these experiments (good and bad) many times. In my own life, I can see a clear pattern of positive results when I follow Christ and His prophets. My personal statement of faith is the result of my ongoing hypothesis and experiment – God is real, Jesus Christ is my savior, and the gospel has been restored.

How I live my faith

I'm an active Mormon and love it. For our family, the church provides a perfect spiritual balance and perspective. We love to work and play together but we also pray, read scriptures and go to church together. I'm currently a member of the 4th Ward in the South Weber Stake. In the church I've served as a home teacher, primary worker, Sunday School teacher, scoutmaster, young men leader, bishop and stake leader. With other ward members we have provided thousands of hours of neighborhood and community service. There is no question that church helps us to be a better family and me to be a better person.
