Hi I'm Becca

I am a world traveler, an amateur philosopher, and a music lover. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a junior in college studying to get into law school. I am an avid reader, an amateur singer, and a want-to-be world traveler. I love meeting new people and learning about new cultures.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon faith, both my parents were members. They taught me growing up that Jesus Christ lived and died for me, that he is my savior, and that he provided a way so that I can return to live with him again one day. They lived their lives in a way that showed me that they believed these things to be true. Over the years their example led me to ask for myself if this was the true church. I read the Book of Mormon one summer and prayed to know if it was true. After doing this I received a wonderful feeling of peace, and the only thing that I could think was "this is the truth." Ever since that day I have tried to always have that same spirit with me, and when I live by the teachings that the prophets tell us I do have that peace with me no matter how busy and hectic the world around me is.

How I live my faith

I am a group leader in my ward. I help plan activities for people my age so that we can have a good time and get to know each other better. The activities I help plan give us the chance to both grow in the church and to meet people our own age in our communities.

What is being a Mormon like?

Becca
Being a Mormon is like being anyone else in the world with the added bonus that you know more about who you are and where your are going in life. The church brings knowledge and peace, and because of that we can find joy instead of confusion. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Becca
Yes, Mormons are Christian. We believe in the teaching of Jesus Christ, and we believe that He is the same Christ that is spoken of in the Bible. We also believe that He is our Savior and Redeemer, and that it is through Him that we can be forgiven and made whole. The church teaches that we need to follow His teaching and strive to be more like Him. Show more Show less

What is the First Vision?

Becca
America in 1820 was split about which church was the true church. There were many groups that preached that they were right and that others were wrong. In the middle of this a young boy named Joseph Smith had questions. He was a Christian, but beyond that he wanted to know which Christian church was true. So he studied the bible and came across James 1:5 and decided to ask for himself which church was true. One day he went out into a grove near his house where he knew he would not be disturbed and prayed. In response to this prayer Joseph saw God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. They taught him that the churches on the earth all had part of the truth, but none had the complete truth. They told Joseph that he shouldn't join any of the churches, instead the church would be restored through him. The First Vision is the what we call that day and that communication between Joseph Smith and the Lord. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Becca
The Book of Mormon is another Testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is a work of scripture that goes hand in hand with The Bible. We believe that 600 years before Christ was born He called a prophet named Lehi, and the Lord commanded Lehi to take his family and leave Jerusalem and come to the American continent. He continued to teach Lehi and his decedents and they wrote down those teachings, similar to the prophets in the Bible. They wrote of God's plan for all of His children, the saving and redeeming power of Christ, and they recorded what happened when Christ came to visit the people in America. This is a book with a promise, that all men who read it with an open heart and ask God through prayer if it is true will receive an answer. The Bible teaches of Christ's life and ministry in Jerusalem, and the Book of Mormon teaches of His ministry to the people of the American continent. Show more Show less
