Hi I'm Robert Parry

I grew up in Northern Virginia. I'm an Eagle Scout and am studying Mechanical Engineering at BYU. I love being a Mormon!

About Me

I go to school at BYU out in Provo, Utah and am studying Mechanical Engineering there. I love music, playing guitar and piano and singing, reading, sleeping, eating, having fun with friends and family. I am currently serving a mission in Manchester, England and am excited for this opportunity to serve the Lord and my fellow men! It's kind of daunting since I'm a quiet person and don't like to talk too much, but I know that the Lord will give me strength as I trust in Him. The gospel has come to mean so much to me as I've gone through my life so far and I know that it will keep growing in meaning to me and those around me as I share it with others. It can be really hard to share those things sometimes since they mean so much to me, but hey, sharing is caring. :)

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that through this church I can make the covenants, perform the ordinances, and receive the revelation I need to return to live with Heavenly Father and my Savior Jesus Christ. I grew up in the church but never really gained a testimony til I was about 14ish. I'm really glad that I found out for myself that it's true and I know that everyone can do the same. It's easy to close your heart and feel sorry for yourself when bad things happen or hard times come, but it takes real strength to be able to open up and recognize and ask for help. That's what happened to me and my whole life is changing because of it. I struggled for a long time trying to figure out who I am, my own identity as a child of God. People always say it's easy, just be yourself, but for me I didn't know who that was. To be honest, it's something I'm still working on constantly. I think that's the key though, being honest with yourself. Recognizing what needs to change and then taking steps to do just that! It can be a long and/or painful process, but it all works out for good. This life is all about changing for the better and that's why I'm a Mormon. :)

How I live my faith

I strive to live my faith everyday by being an example to others and living the principles and doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I do everything I can to try to be like him in word, deed, and thought. Everything we do reflects the person we really are. I heard somewhere that only 7% of communication is through spoken words, so most of it comes down to tone of voice, body language and especially how we act and treat others. I think it's so important to have charity towards other people, even if you don't know them on a personal level. It can be hard at times, but life is meant to be hard, so we can really learn and appreciate what we learn.
