Hi I'm Ruth T Smith

I'm a Mormon, a mom with seven children, and a grandma with twenty-eight grandchildren. I'm happy and I love life.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Idaho with loving parents and siblings. This was the perfect place to grow up. I live in a small town in Utah now, and I love it here. We have raised our 7 children here, and they have blessed us with 28 grandchildren. Life is great! As a youth I was quiet and reserved. As an adult I am still quiet and reserved. I love to play softball. (I hope I'm not getting to old to play.) I love playing the piano and have taught piano lessons for several years now. I have worked full-time as the county treasurer for 18 years, and before that I was the jailer-dispatcher for 6 years of our county. I really enjoyed both jobs. In fact, it was hard to leave my county treasurer job but my husband and I have always wanted to go on a mission. Since we are both healthy right now, we decided the time to go on our mission is right now. So we will have the awesome opportunity to serve a mission in Hungary starting in July. I can hardly wait. I am nervous about learning the language, but my husband and I are trying hard. We have been skyping with tudors to help us learn the language. We can say some words and phrases now, and we can pray slowly and we can testify of our Saviour slowly, also. My most important calling in life has been as mother, grandmother, and wife. I feel at times that I have fallen short of this amazing opportunity. My children, grandchildren, and husband are the love of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of my Saviour. Our gospel teaches us that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins. He died for me! Can you believe he did that for me? How special I must be. Jesus Christ atoned for our sins so that we can return and live with our Father in Heaven. I love teaching others about Jesus Christ. I love my Father in Heaven also. He loved me so much that he gave me the opportunity to have a Saviour atone for my sins. All that I must do is follow him. This means that I get baptized, repent of my sins, and try to keep Heavenly Father's commandments. Pretty simple, huh? But I fall short every day. So I ask his forgiveness and try again the next day. I am thankful for the commandments Heavenly Father has given me. He has given us these commandments to help us be happy! He knows that if we follow his plan that we will be happy. I am very thankful for prayer. I love to pray to my Father in Heaven every day. I thank him for my blessings, ask for his forgiveness for my shortcomings, and ask him to bless those whom I love. Heavenly Father always answers my prayers. Sometimes I have to wait for his answer, and sometimes the answer isn't even the one I want, but he is always there for me. A few months ago my sister died of brain cancer. I miss her so! But because of the knowledge I have of life after death, I know that she lives. She is in Heaven with my mother and father and sister and brothers. She is busily serving our Father in Heaven just as she was here on the earth. How grateful I am for this knowledge. I love the temple. In temples we receive special blessings from our Father in Heaven. We are also able to be married for time and all eternity. How cool is that! I am married to my husband forever and ever! I love him dearly so I am thankful for this opportunity. My chidlren are sealed to me forever and ever also. Can we have a better blessing than this? I am so blessed!

How I live my faith

I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When I was 8 I was baptized. My twin brother was baptized that same day, too. What a blessing to belong to Christ's church. I know God loves me and that my Saviour loves me. He atoned for my sins. How amazing is that! I owe him my all. I am thankful that every week I can partatke of the sacrmanet in church in sacrament meeting. This helps me remember my Saviour, and to remember that I am his servant here upon the earth. I hope that I can spend my time serving his children. I have had opportunity to serve in various callings in the church. For instance, I have been a teacher to small children, and a teacher and leader to teen-age young women. Both of these opportunities have been a light in my life. Along with another women I am also a visiting teacher to four women in our ward. Once a month we go into their homes and leave a spiritual thought and see how they are doing. This is one way that I can serve my Saviour, by helping to take care of his children. I love visiting teaching. The woman that goes with me is amazing! She is always so friendly, kind, concerned, and considerate of those we visit. She is a perfect example of a Christ-like woman. I am thankful that I can attend church every week. This helps me to remember what Christ did for me, and reminds me that I must serve and try to be like him. I love the Book of Mormon. I try to read from it's pages every day. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. Every day I try to read a chapter from the Book of Mormon and a chapter from the New Testatment. I pray every day to my Father in heaven. I thank him for my many blessings, ask his forgiveness for my sins, and ask for his blessings to be with those that I love. How truly blessed I am!
