Hi I'm Marian Dougherty

I am from Virginia. I love playing sports, singing, and spending time with my family and friends. I am happy! I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student that loves to have fun with her friends. I love playing any sport but mostly volleyball and soccer. I would rather go to the lake than to the beach. I thoroughly enjoy singing. At school I am studying to be an Athletic Trainer, because I love sports and human anatomy. I know some ASL, but please be patient with me when signing! Nutella makes everything better. And I love my Savior, Jesus Christ!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because living the standards and principles taught in this church has given me such comfort, hope, and true happiness that will last forever! And after reading the Book of Mormon and praying to ask God if it is true, and if being a member of His church here on earth is what He wanted me to do, I felt the Holy Ghost testify to me that yes, it is! I know that I am a child of God and that He loves me very much. And because He loves me He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to set an example and atone for my sins. Because of this I can live with my Heavenly Father (God) again, and with my family forever!

How I live my faith

My faith is more than a religion or another church but my faith is my lifestyle. I try to help out in my community by becoming friends with my neighbors and serving them in any way I can. I hope I can be the friend that people can rely on when they need a ride to the grocery store, or when they need to vent and talk through something, I hope I can be the listening ear they need. I hope that as people get to know me they better understand who Jesus Christ is.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Marian Dougherty
We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. We are not physical beings having a spiritual experience. We are all spirit children of God, and right now our bodies are the temporary living places for us. This means that our bodies are our individual temples here on earth! Our Heavenly Father has given us these amazing bodies to be able to learn and grow spiritually, so whatever happens to our bodies affect our spirits, or who we truly are. If we harm our bodies either on the outside or inside we grow apart from God more and more. That is why God has given us a commandment of health. God made our bodies, so He knows how to take care of them! Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Marian Dougherty
It is really fun being a Mormon! As a Mormon you can constantly be serving people around you, which brings peace, comfort, and an opprotunity to not focus on you all the time. I am able to continually try to better myself to become the person our Heavenly Father knows I can become! Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Marian Dougherty
The Word of Wisdom is a law of health given by God to the prophet Joesph Smith in these modern times. It makes a lot of sense to me that God would give His children a law of health to help us know how to take good care of our bodies that He designed and gave to us. The Word of Wisdom encourages us to eat well, exercise, and not let tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, or illegal drugs into our bodies. When each one of us chooses to live this law God promises magnificent blessings both physical and spiritual. I do not understand every reason behind every part of this law, but I do know that God is our loving Heavenly Father and knows everything, so when we live it, we will be happier than if we do not. Why is family so important to Mormons?

Marian Dougherty
Family is the ordained social unit of God. Family is where we all can learn and grow with a built in support system! Family is where we learn how to love and be loved. As we come closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ, our family relationships are strengthened as well. Families are so important because families can be sealed together forever! When families are broken is when society starts falling apart. Show more Show less

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

Marian Dougherty
To become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints you must act on your faith. To act of your faith you must know how to do that, so talk to the missionaries! They will help you understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and invite you to pray to know what is true and what is not true. As you do so with faith, a sincere desire to know, and with the intention of acting on the answer you will feel the Holy Ghost tesify to you by feeling peace, comfort, strength, assurance, or happiness. Then you will officially become a member when you are baptized and confirmed by the proper authority of God (the priesthood)! Being baptized and recieving the gift of the Holy Ghost (being confirmed) has been the greatest decision I have made. It is how we truly follow our Savior, Jesus Christ! Show more Show less
