Hi I'm Olya

I was born and raised in Russia, but my ancestors come from Korea. I'm a Russian and English teacher, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love teaching languages. I believe that studying languages and cultures help us better understand each other and be more tolerant to other cultures. I teach Russian classes at a university in Utah. When I have free time, I like to hike, fish, camp, cook, and read! But my favorite thing to do is fly fishing.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 19, I was searching for God about whom I had heard so many times but I never really stopped to think seriously about. I wanted to discover what the real purpose of life is. I knew no human could answer that question, so I turned to God. I was praying for changes in my life, for peace. I was not sure how my prayers would be answered, but I prayed and prayed. And after just a few months, a couple of missionaries knocked on my door. It was not easy to accept their words, so I prayed again. I did receive my answer from my Heavenly Father and that's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday by being active in the Gospel. I do my best to help others by using my strengths and trying to become a better person by fighting my weaknesses. I deeply respect other religions and love sharing mine.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

My life itself is an evidence that there is God. He answered my prayers so many times that it is not a coincidence anymore. I know there is a God and He loves us. Some people doubt of the existence of God because there are so many disturbing and evil things in the world in which we live. I was at that very point, not believing there is God because those evil things happened, but through a personal prayer I know He is there. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

The Bible teaches us "by their fruits you shall know them." The Book of Mormon is a fruit of Joseph Smith, because he translated it by the power of God. It's either true or not, there is no middle ground. I personally had to ask God whether it's true. A lot of times we hear so many voices telling us that they have the truth, but only Heavenly Father knows. If you'd really like to know whether Mormonism is true, take the Book of Mormon and with a sincere and humble heart start reading it. Along the way, ask your Father in Heaven if it's true, and then, listen. The answer might come later on, but as long as you are patient and meek, the answer will come. It won't come as something loud or unusual, but you will know the Book is true and that the answer came from God. After you receive your answer, you will feel so much joy and peace. It's worth of finding out. Show more Show less
