Do you want to chat with a missionary?

We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi I'm Samuel

I'm a college student from Colorado and Connecticut. I like writing music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Sam. I'm a 23-year-old college student and I recently completed serving a mission in the Anaheim, California area. I am the oldest of three children and I love my mom and dad and younger brother and sister very much. I'm studying to become a chemical engineer. I like reading and I love playing and writing music in my free time. I'm happy to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and I know it's the best way to achieve happiness and peace and become the best we can be.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love what I have learned about Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon over time. I have come to know through sincere prayer and through reading the Book of Mormon that it is the word of God, that Joseph Smith is a true prophet, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus Christ's true Church on the earth today. When I was growing up in middle school and high school, I was a pretty shy kid and sort of unfriendly. I spent too much time on school studies and not enough time getting to know other people. I simply believed that that's who I was and that I'd never change. Believing that lie cost me a lot of time, happiness, and potential friends. Once I started seriously following Christ and changed things about my life that were not right, I realized how much He loves me and that through Him I can change my desires and nature. He helped me to be more confident in myself, make more friends, perform better in my school studies, and become closer with the rest of my family. One of the most important thing I've learned from Him is how to love people. Love is not a feeling that simply happens to you but is a decision you must make every single day. I promise in Jesus Christ's name that when you follow Him and love the people around you, you will feel peace and joy in your life and you will know that they come from something greater than yourself. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true and that living the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is not only the best way but the only way to achieve true, lasting joy for ourselves, our families, our friends, and our world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by example. I try to be humble and calm when I work and when I talk with others. I try to help others understand why I am happy and help them understand how the gospel can help them in their lives. I serve in my young single adult congregation by helping coordinate a fellowship activity each month. I also serve by trying to be a good friend to everyone I meet.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Samuel
No one is forced to take on any calling. No one is forced to serve a mission. Young men are strongly encouraged to serve a full time mission beginning as early as their 18th birthday because it is considered a priesthood duty. Young women are not under the same obligation, but many choose to serve missions (beginning as early as their 19th birthday) and have helped many people embrace the gospel. Why do we serve? Some people serve purely because they consider it a duty and because their parents or siblings have gone before them. Sometimes young people go because they believe it will make them more attractive to a future spouse. But these are not the best reasons. I served a mission because I know that the Church and and gospel of Jesus Christ does more improve a person's life than anything else he/she could investigate. I'm a missionary because I love Jesus Christ and what He did for us and this is a small way I can show my love for Him and His children. As a missionary, I know I can help make a difference, no matter who small, in someone's future. Show more Show less
