Hi I'm Jake Baxter

I grew up in rural eastern Oregon. I just graduated from high school. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of five kids. My dad is our local judge and my mom is a homemaker. I was the student body president at my high school and I like to swim, read, run, and hang out with my awesome friends! Right now I'm in the Missionary Training Center learning Russian. I leave for Rostov-na-Donu pretty soon and I am very excited!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church, but I had to gain a testimony for myself before I "really believed." When I was 13 years old, I decided to read the Book of Mormon all the way through by myself. While reading, I thought about whether or not it could be true. After praying about it, I knew it was true and my testimony just grew from there! Because I know the Book of Mormon is true, I know Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true church. If these things are true, then the other scriptures are true and I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. I'm very grateful for the church and all that it has done for me. I am excited to serve my mission and share my testimony and bare witness of the Savior and all of these other amazing truths to others.

How I live my faith

I try (and mostly succeed) to read the scriptures every night and I always pray everyday. For the past 4 years I've gone to early-morning seminary (a church class for high school students) where my parents were my teachers all 4 years. I've been involved in lots of fun stuff this year: my stake did a trek in Martin's Cove, Wyoming where I met a lot of awesome people and some of my best friends in the world. I also danced at the Boise temple Youth Cultural Celebration, which included a performance for President Monson, our Prophet. Almost every Friday or Saturday of this year I have gone over to a neighboring town and hung out with my new friends from the Trek. It's great being with other LDS youth who share my standards and beliefs. I thank the Church for these wonderful blessings in my life. I leave for a mission in Russia this summer, and I'm excited to go!
