Hi I'm Marvin Fay Smith

I grew up in a small town with a loving mother and father and two sisters and two brothers.

About Me

I served in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission. I attended college and found my sweetheart there. We have been married for 43 years. I am a mechanic, and worked on farm equipment as my vocation. I like to fish and hunt. We have 7 children and 28 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me the gospel from my youth up, but I had to gain a testimony for myself. When I was 19 the bishop asked me to go on a mission. I wasn't ready, and told him I didn't want to go. He asked me to read the Book of Mormon. I had never read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover. I told him that I would commit to reading the Book of Mormon. After I finished reading the Book of Mormon I was irrigating on my dad's farm, and decided to put the promise made by Moroni (10:4) to the test. Then I knew by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon was true, and that I needed to share this book with others. I was called to serve in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission. This was the best decision that I made in my life up to this point. When you choose the right you obtain blessings; when you choose the wrong you lose blessings. My testimony grows each day as I strive to keep the commandments.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by accepting all assignments given to me by my leaders. I have found that these assignments have been rewarding and fulfilling. These assignments have helped me grow and progress. For instance, right now I have the opportunity of serving in the class for 18 months to three years. It is a fun calling. I serve with my wife. We teach the children about Jesus Christ and about how special it is for them to be in a family. We teach them that God loves them. We look forward to our young classmates each Sunday. Other opportunities I have had are working with the youth. I have tried to strengthen their tesitimonies of Jesus Christ. To do this we have participated in service projects, camping events, and other inspirational activities. I have also served on the town board. This has given me an opportunity to serve the people in my community.
