Hi I'm Steve Layton

I was born and raised in the great state of Utah. I love sports and the outdoors. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family. I have 5 sisters, and I love them to death! I enjoy spending as much time as I can with them. We frequent Lake Powell and the beaches of California. I enjoy playing golf, tennis, basketball, wakeboarding, surfing, and hiking the beautiful mountains of Utah. I love being outside and staying active. I am also quite obsessed with animals, especially dogs. A dog can cheer up anyone's day! Time spent with loved ones, both friends and family, is something I look forward to, and is what keeps me going.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized when I was 8 years old, but wasn't active for most of my life. In the latter months of High School, I began to make very poor decisions. I quickly found myself in a hole that I did not know how I was going to get out. I had legal trouble, addictions, and was severely depressed. Life seemed to be something that was just passing me by. It wasn't until I remembered that my mother had a couple copies of the Book of Mormon up in the office. You need to remember, at this point in my life, I wasn't praying, I wasn't going to church, I wasn't being kind to others or even myself for that matter, I wasn't doing anything to promote these promptings I was having to read the Book of Mormon. The only explanation I have as to why I felt prompted to read, is that it was a direct intervention from God. He knew that I could not do this on my own. Whether consciously or subconsciously, I had conceded to that same fact, I needed help. I read the Book of Mormon twice in 2 months. I was feeling the Holy Ghost as I read because the Holy Ghost testifies of truth. From this point on, I knew that this is the true church here on the earth. I knew that this was the path that I needed to take to get my life back on track. I am so grateful for our Heavenly Father and the love he shows us even when we don't deserve it. His unwavering faith in me gave me the courage to press forward. This church and the restored gospel, has literally saved my life, and I will be endlessly grateful.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a 2 year mission in the Florida, Jacksonville Mission. Before I left, I taught the 11 year old primary class in my ward, as well as the scouts of the same age. I loved spending time with the kids in the church. They help you realize what is important in life. I enjoy meeting new people and being a friend. I look to serve when I can, and try to follow the example of Jesus Christ in all I do.
