Hi I'm Madeline

I grew up in Oregon, lived in Singapore, and hope to experience and write about more of the world. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of five children in my family. With two older brothers, I grew to love playing sports and being active. With two older sisters, I learned to love talking and listening, and laughing at basically everything. My favorite sports to play are hands down volleyball and tennis. I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors and biking, running, camping, and hiking only serve to increase my love of nature. I have a passion for travelling, for writing and literature, and for learning new things. I am currently a college student, and although I do not know what my major will be, I know that I want to devote myself to a profession in the field of international relief and development. I am extremely forgetful and I tend to space out often, partly because I love to think and partly because I have an extensive imagination that I find myself exploring from time to time. I think art, especially poetry and music, has a way of touching the soul like nothing else. I think it is really important to search for and appreciate beauty in places where one would not think to find it. Miscellaneous likes include flowers, stargazing, and chocolate chip cookies. That's me!

Why I am a Mormon

I find all peace, hope, and the core of my joy in my faith in Jesus Christ. He lifts me up to see what I have the potential to become. When I feel weak, alone, sad, or scared He is always there. Whenever I call on Him, begging for His comfort or to feel His love, He has never let me down, nor will He ever. He is the Ultimate Friend, and because He has given me everything, most valuable of which is a chance to see my Heavenly Father again after I die, I love Him more than anything or anyone on this earth. And so, I am a Mormon because I believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is His church, His gospel, and His legacy that he has given to us in love and mercy. By being baptized and accepting this gospel into my life, I have pledged to serve, love, and remember Jesus Christ and what He has sacrificed for all people. This knowledge and faith is my most precious and valuable possession. I hold onto it with everything I have because the world is full of darkness, uncertainty, and suffering. Hope in Christ is the only remedy to that fear and darkness. It has saved my life and made me who I am today. If I left one thing behind, one piece of me to be remembered, I would want it to be that I knew Jesus Christ lived for us, died for us, and that He will come again to finish His work. I pray that we will be ready to meet Him when He does.

How I live my faith

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I participate in activities and service projects that are organized by other members in leadership positions in my ward (or the group of members from the area I live that attend the same church as me). I served as a music directer for a while for the women in my ward which meant that I would choose the hymns we sang before and after our classes, and I organized for us to sing in front of the whole ward during the time we meet all together in Sacrament Meeting. Currently, I am preparing to serve a full time mission for 18 months where I will be a representative of the church and will be teaching others about the this gospel of Jesus Christ and encouraging them to accept it into their lives. It is an amazing privilege and I cannot wait!
