Hi I'm Melody Cook

I have an amazing, loving family. I'm married to my best friend. I was born and raised in the south and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in a loving military family of seven. Being the youngest and only girl in my family, life was never dull. I like to play the piano and the organ and I like to sing, act, and speak Spanish. Mostly, though, I love spending time with my husband, laughing and talking about anything. I go to school where I major in education. With my degree, I hope to teach elementary school.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know and love God's plan for me. I take joy in the knowledge that I can be with my family forever, even after I die. My older brother was in a fatal car accident five years ago. This unexpected tragedy was tough for my family. As time went by, though, we realized we had grown closer because we came together and relied on each other and the Lord. Although I miss my brother every day, I know I will see him again and that our family will be reunited forever after our life on earth. This knowledge of eternal families is one of my favorite things about this gospel. I believe in a God of mercy and love. This is what the LDS church teaches. None of us are perfect. I am far from perfect, but I know that God loves me and will forgive me if I only call upon Him and ask for forgiveness. I can be happy every day, no matter what happens in my life because my Heavenly Father knows me by name. His Son, Jesus Christ suffered for all of my sins and suffered through all of my pains including heartache, sickness, and grief. When I feel alone, I can ask to feel the love of my Savior, and He will comfort me. I know that there is no sin bad enough that I cannot ask for the mercy of my Savior and of my God. He knows all of our names and everything we have been through. We are God's children. I love that I can follow the guidance of modern-day prophets who give us guidance to help us with problems of the world and can help us follow Christ. I believe that our God would not cut off communication with us, so we have a prophet and apostles today who guide us and encourage us.It is the same as when God had prophets on the earth in ancient days and when Christ had apostles. I know that I can pray to my Heavenly Father and thank Him for His blessings and also ask for answers to questions and pray for help in any situation. I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father who loves me and I love Him. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Since I am recently married, my husband and I just moved to a new location and a new church building. I love that the teaching are always the same in the LDS church, no matter where you go in the world. We are new in our location, and have only had the opportunity to go to this service once. I hope, though, that when we attend this Sunday, I'll have new service opportunities. In previous places I've lived, I've had many amazing experiences in service. I was asked to translate for Spanish-speaking children in the five-year-old Sunday school class. It was incredible and so much fun! As I helped these children learn and understand, I could tell they had the light of Christ with them. I watched as they learned new concepts about Christ that they had not understood before. It was tough for me when I had to leave that location and the children and move to college. In my previous location when I was living in the dorms on my college campus, I attended a service for a year that was made up of young adults aged 18-25. In that location, I served as the pianist and organist. The experience was wonderful as I was able to build my own testimony of Christ and others' through music.
