Hi I'm Jake

I'm short, but I love basketball. I like pens. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in and lived in the desert for 19 years, and I love it. My dad and brother and I love to go shooting together, as well as mountain bike on the amazing trails around Arizona. To beat the heat in the late summer, I go out on the lake on a houseboat with my whole family. We fish, water ski, and wake-board in the day, and play games together at night. I have never been the tallest kid--It is a personal dream to break 5'10". However, this hasn't stopped my love for basketball. I love watching it and I tend to be a bandwagon fan (I admit it). I also love to play it--whether it be a 5 on 5 game with my friends at the gym, or just shooting around in my driveway. I may not be the best, but I still love the game. I have a weird thing for pens--I really like them, and I have a lot of them. I buy a ton of them, and probably spend way too much money on them. I don't know why, I just do. I am now a college student at BYU, and I love the college life. I hope to someday go to Law School. For now though, I just want to have fun!

Why I am a Mormon

The church has been and will always be a big part of my life. I grew up in it, so I have been blessed to always have the gospel as my parents taught me about it beginning at a young age. Some may think that I am a Mormon only because I was raised in a Mormon household. However, that is not the case. I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. When I am doing what is right, living the gospel teachings to the best of my ability, and communicating with my Heavenly Father daily, I am happier. This gospel brings me so much joy. The power of the atonement is real, and it has brought me true joy. The Lord is merciful and I know He loves me, and all of his children. He loved us so much that He gave His son as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we could repent and live with Him again. In His love, he gave us a record of the people in the Americas, that teaches us even more about His love, His gospel, and His prophets. This record, The Book of Mormon is the truest book we have on earth today, and it has blessed my life. The prophet Joseph Smith was truly a prophet, seer, and revelator called of God to restore this true gospel and translate the Book of Mormon. His faith in times of trial and hardship is an amazing example for me. Finally, God gave us families because He loves us, and wants the best for us. I am grateful for my family and everything they have taught me, as well as the example my parents have set for me. This church is true, and I am grateful for that knowledge and everything it teaches me.

How I live my faith

The church has been and will always be a big part of my life. Growing up, I have had many opportunities to serve in my church. In my early "-teens" I got to be a leader for a group of boys my age at church. We worked in Boy Scouts together as well as church service work. I learned leadership and teaching skill early on, and I am grateful for that. Since then I have been a men's church teacher while in college. While doing this I met new people and learned so much more about this gospel. I have also loved fulfilling my calling as a home teacher--visiting the members of my congregation with my father has been one of the most memorable service opportunities this church has given me.
