Hi I'm Christie

I was raised in Salt Lake but was not an active member of the Church. I'm a Mormon today because of good friends.

About Me

I am happily married to a wonderful man, have four children and five grandchildren! I am what is called an "Empty Nester" - all my children have flown out of the nest but I get to help with the grandchildren and I love that job. My children and grandchildren all live in the same area which has been fantastic. I belong to a book club and love reading the books recommended by the club as it gives me an opportunity to read something different than what I would choose. I love to golf but am not a great golfer by any stretch of the imagination! Sports have always played a significant role in my life and to try to keep myself physically fit I work with a personal trainer once a week. I love watching my grandchildren play sports and to watch them grow. What an amazing opportunity to be close to all my close family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am an active Mormon because a friend named Janey cared about me enough to ask me to just read a few verses in the Book of Mormon. That friend changed my life forever. She gave me a note written on a napkin that said read Alma 32:26-43 in the Book of Mormon and just try it. Because I loved this friend who was my roommate very much, I felt I should at least take the time to read what she wanted me to read and it was only 18 verses – not even the whole chapter! Verse 27 was the key for me. “But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties (wake up), even to an experiment upon my words, (I could perform an experiment) and exercise (try it out) a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire (maybe at that time all I had was a desire) to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.” This is when I did wake up and I did try the experiment. I had a desire to believe and this was the beginning. I started praying and reading the scriptures daily and started attending institute with my friend as she said she knew someone that was an institute instructor and he was really good. His name was Jeffrey Holland and she was right – he was really good! It was a major change for me and all things are possible with the help of a loving Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I have the opportunity of teaching the young women in our ward. I am a teacher for the 14-15 year olds, but these young women have taught me so much because of their strength and knowledge of the gospel. As a teacher, I prepare a lesson, but many times I feel I gain more than those I teach. Another calling that I have is working at the temple. I love smiling at the individuals that come to the temple and serving them as best I can. The feelings that come to me while serving in the temple inspire me to always want to be worthy to go to the temple and serve my Heavenly Father always. My testimony grows stronger every day as I serve the Lord in my callings. I am thankful for the opportunity to share my love of the gospel with the young women and to show my love for Him as I serve in his Holy Temple.
