Hi I'm David

I'm a college student. I love to sing. I enjoy living life to the fullest. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a college student, I am studying Mathematics and participating in minor courses in Economics, Geography, and Scandinavian Studies. I love to learn and challenge myself and I find particular interest in learning languages. In addition, my other interests include the biological sciences and music of all sorts. After I finish my undergraduate program I hope to attend graduate school in Finland, where I will study Biomathematics. Music has always been an important part of my life. I have sung in choirs since I was only a few years old, and yet each new opportunity to learn a piece of music and to perform it continues to excite me. One of my favorite forms of performance is Musical Theatre. The thrill that comes from acting as another person and filling the stage and audience with my own voice is exhilarating beyond anything else I know. I also love to learn about Music Theory and Music History and hope to continue to let music influence how I live the rest of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that were all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My father joined the Church when he was in High School because he recognized the truth of the Plan of Salvation and felt that he had heard it before. My mother comes from a long heritage of faithful members. They raised me with a solid and strong understanding of the doctrines that we believe in, but this was not enough to ensure my own faith. I developed my own testimony by reading the scriptures and praying to determine if the words were true. After reading the Book of Mormon in its entirety, I took Moroni's challenge found in Moroni chapter 10 and prayed to know if the Book of Mormon was truly the word of God. I was answered with a feeling of peace that was so strong that it could not be denied that Heavenly Father had heard my prayer and that the Book of Mormon was indeed the words of his servants as translated by a Prophet. At this point, I knew the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints contained the full restored truth and Gospel of Christ. It was important, however that I continue to nourish my testimony and receive continued witnesses each day. As with any High School student, there were times when I felt alone, disappointed, and forgotten. I came to learn that the divine Atonement of Jesus Christ was here to help each of us to be able to make it through these hard times in our lives. I know that Christ suffered so that each of us will be able to live again and that we may have the opportunity, through obedience to God's commandments and the covenants we make with him, to return and live in his presence forever. Just as I was able to come to know these truths, I know that every person can learn of his Gospel, pray to know if it is true, and receive an undeniable witness that it is.

How I live my faith

My knowledge and passion for music has provided me with the opportunity to share my talents with those around me as I lead the Choir in my local congregation. There is something particularly special about music that helps us to remember and worship our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. Each week as the choir meets together to sing songs of praises, I am filled with love and gratitude and happiness beyond description. Conducting the choir, as well as when I had the opportunity to sing in it, has not only given me the chance to share my faith with others but has also increased my faith in Christ and my knowledge that there is a plan for me that my loving Heavenly Father has provided. I will soon have the opportunity to embark on a trip to a new place where I will be serving as a full-time missionary for two years. While a missionary, I will put aside the distractions and unimportant things that so often plague my time and devote myself entirely to serving my brothers and sisters around the world. I will have the chance to share with them my beliefs and understanding of my purpose here on Earth and to seek out and teach those who are interested in learning more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
