Hi I'm Elaine

I grew up in a suburb of San Francisco and taught elementary school. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I had two dreams early in my life: becoming a school teacher and finding out why I was living here on the earth. I spent a dozen years searching for answers to my questions about my existence on the earth. While in my junior year at a University in California, I found these answers from the teachings and doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Four years later my second dream was fulfilled when I was hired to teach elementary school. I got married and had five children and now enjoy our 10 grandchildren. Although I retired from teaching school so I could give my full attention to raising my children, I continued and still continue to tutor struggling students. I am also very activie in my church work, community and in local government.

Why I am a Mormon

While growing up, no one could give me answers about my existence here on the earth. I attended many religions and didn't find any answers to why I was here, why we had families, where we would be going after this life and what we would be doing there. I decided three things: (1), the family is the most important unit (I am Greek and family means everything!) (2), no one should take away my right to make my own choices, and (3) the Bible couldn't be true because if there were prophets leading and guiding the people on the earth during Moses's time and Noah's time there would be evidence of prophets today. So I became an agnostic, neither being able to prove nor disprove the existence of God. At age 18, my life was threatened by someone who forced his way into my car. When I prayed in my heart for the first time (there really are no atheists in fox holes) I felt someone had heard my prayer...a higher being. And after that ordeal, I continued to pray everyday to be led to truth and if I had to wait until the next life, so be it. I didn't want to be led down the wrong path. I was introduced to the Mormon Church through some friends. It wasn't the Book of Mormon that caught my attention about our religion. It was the Doctrine & Covenants, which a Mormon friend told me was modern day teachings from a modern day prophet for the people today. I had an overwhelming desire to study that book, which I did while in my junior year at college. I gained a testimony of the Doctrine & Covenants and then while reading 3Nephi in the Book of Mormon, I gained a testimony of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and His atonement. I joined the church and the anxious feelings I always carried inside of me from not knowing why we are here on the earth, left me and never returned. Sure there have been many trials since, like loosing our 19 year old in a car accident--but it was my new found faith and truth that has always seen me through. How grateful I am!

How I live my faith

I participate in various church activities. In the past, I helped teach the youth and young women on Sundays and helped to organize various activities that would help them have fun while serving others and strengthening their faith in God. Today, I am in charge of the spiritual and temporal well being of 82 women. I help to organize activities and present lessons that will help meet their needs. I also help a handicapped woman and an elderly woman in our community with errands on a weekly basis.
