Hi I'm Tessa

I grew up in Palo Alto, California. I've been called to serve in the Japan Kobe mission for 18 months. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Palo Alto, California. When I was 14 we moved to Granite Bay, California (close to Sacramento). After my Sophomore year of high school we moved to Alpine, Utah. I graduated from high school there and then my family moved to San Diego and I moved on to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Pretty soon I'll be headed to Japan! Life has taken me to many places and with each place comes new friends and new lessons to be learned. I've learned that some lessons come the harder than others, but life isn't supposed to be easy. Someone said, "A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor." In high school I tried out some different sports, including waterpolo, cross country and lacrosse. I enjoy being active and outdoors. I also love photography, cooking, reading, walking, hiking, horseback riding, biking, traveling, and spending time laughing with my family and friends. The most important thing in my life is family. Including myself, there are eleven people in my family (Mom, Dad and 9 kids.) That means I automatically have ten best friends! I am number 3. I have two older brothers. The oldest passed away three years ago. We love him and I often feel him with me, helping me along my journey. The second just returned from an LDS mission in Romania. He loved it. I was recently called to serve as a missionary in Japan. I could not be more excited and grateful that I have the opportunity to serve the Lord for 18 months. Now I just need to learn Japanese!

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized at the age of eight, as most are who are born into the church. I remember how I felt on my baptism day, that warm feeling inside me of being pure and clean. I know that I felt that way because I had made a commitment to love and serve God throughout my life. I believe that warmth that I felt was Heavenly Father letting me know I had made the right choice. My life hasn't always been easy, but I know that Christ has carried me through the thick and the thin. He is my Savior. At those times when I get frustrated with life, with people, with myself, I always know that I can turn to the one person who has experienced exactly what I am feeling. He has felt all of my pain and sickness and heartache. He knows my weaknesses and He understands me perfectly. This life is full of joy and hope. This gospel lets me know where to find the light, and the hope that I need. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. Every time I read it, I find what I need. I know that Christ is always there. We are never alone. I love my family and I know that I can live with them forever, not just a lifetime.

How I live my faith

I believe that faith should be expressed in action. To believe in God is the beginning of faith, but it is incomplete if I don't serve Him and follow His teachings. When I serve others, I feel Heavenly Father's love for them and I know that I am doing what He would have me do. I love the gospel so much. I love that it gives us opportunities to reach outside ourselves and serve others unselfishly. If we are serving with all our heart and strength, I believe we can become a little more like Christ. Starting out on my mission I have learned so much about my purpose on this earth. My purpose is to return to my Heavenly Father and to help others to come back to Him as well. He loves each one of His children. He knows each of our names and is aware of our needs. He wants us all back. He sent Christ to suffer for our sins so that we could return to Him. Serving and giving of my time and effort for others helps me to see people as Christ sees them: with an unconditional love. I learned a lot about this kind of love from my mom, who is one of the most Christ-like people I know. She loves each of us kids unconditionally and sacrifices so many things for us. My dad also sacrifices his time and efforts in order to provide for us. I know that my parents love me, and I know with just as much certainty that my Heavenly Father loves me and all of His children with a perfect love that is unchanging and unfailing.
